Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War features a divisive new take on scorestreaks, and while Treyarch is unwilling to budge on the new system, they have acknowledged requests regarding balancing. Based on fan complaints, some scorestreaks in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will be dealing different damage and carrying a new price tag going forward.

The first mention of a change sees the iconic RC-XD streak being given a minor buff, allowing the explosive car to destroy sentry gun turrets in one detonation instead of two. A more minor tweak sees an issue regarding the Cruise Missile’s voiceover not playing, while a more noticeable alteration to the Napalm Strike has been made. The streak has been nerfed by quite a bit, as the explosive radius has been lowered by 16% and the damage has been reduced according to the patch notes.

Another Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War scorestreak that has seen a major change is Artillery, which has had its outer damage reduced by 20%. The streak’s explosive damage was “corrected” as well. Next up, for players that feel like they have been killed nonstop by War Machine as of late, an exploit where the launcher’s ammo is reset could be the reason. Thankfully, this bug has been fixed, with the Combat Bow’s exploit being removed as well.

With Twitch streamer Shroud hating scorestreaks, he should approve of a major change made to the Chopper Gunner. The cost of the streak has been bumped from 6500 to 8000, something that should make the powerful streak far less common in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. The Attack Helicopter has also been bumped from 4500 to 5000 score, though this smaller change should not have too much of an impact on the prevalence of the streak.

The final scorestreak point change sees a streak being buffed, as the VTOL Escort unlock has been lowered by 1000 points — bringing it to 7,000 points. This is easily the most controversial change of the game settings update, as many feel that the streak is better than the Chopper Gunner. However, with previous scorestreak adjustments being made alongside this latest set of changes, there will surely be far more streak nerfs and buffs to come – meaning that this VTOL change may not last long.

While it is unclear when the next scorestreak changes will come to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, the release of Season 1 seems like a good bet. With a massive rebalancing for weapons on the way, it makes sense that even more scorestreak changes could be happening on Wednesday as well.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
