The inaugural season of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War brought a much-needed rebalancing to the game alongside plenty of new content and major bug fixes. However, one Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War bug has slipped through the cracks, and it sees players losing access to camos they have already earned.

While seasoned players believe that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s camo challenges are easier than Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s, a camo bug is making the challenge completion far more troublesome than it needs to be. Not only are players losing progress made in certain matches, but having their unlocked camos removed if the bug happens with a completed weapon. Unfortunately, the issue has persisted since launch and seems to be widespread, with multiple commenters claiming to have seen their challenge progress reset as well.

While some players have been lucky enough to unlock Dark Matter camo early via a previous bug, others have had their hard-earned camouflage patterns taken away. As shown by Horimiya_fan on Reddit, the game is “taking away camos that you unlock,” with the player showing their Bullfrog SMG at 46/50 longshots for the Bloodline camo challenge — despite the camo being equipped on the gun already. For whatever reason, the game reset Horimiya_fan’s camo progress, removing the camo from the player’s inventory.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War players have recently seen entire weapons taken from inventories, but that was expected due to the weapons not meant to be in the game. Camo challenges for the Bullfrog and other weapons should not be causing more problems than they usually do, and they certainly should not have to be completed twice. According to a commenter on Horimaya_fan’s post named Pughskii, the player has encountered a more extreme version of the glitch where they “unlocked the gold FFAR-1 about 7 times."

In the post, the two Redditors discuss the possible source of this Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War bug. Horimaya_fan cites closing the app too soon after a camo unlock as the source of the problem, while Pughskii believes it has to do with Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War lobbies disbanding. Both players could be right, and regardless of what the cause of the camo bug is, hopefully it is fixed soon.

Fans that have been plagued by this camo glitch may want to claim Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s free holiday gift pack in the store. While the cosmetics will not stop those impacted by the bug from redoing certain challenges, the bonus items could calm players down a bit while they wait on a patch.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
