Activision confirmed the featured modes in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, including its Campaign mode, will require an internet connection to play. Fans were recently given a chance to take a closer look at the next mainline entry of the long-running Call of Duty games, which premiered a new trailer during the recent Xbox Games Showcase. While many players were likely thrilled with the reveal and the franchise's return to the Gulf War era, some users were also displeased by the introduction of a new restriction for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

Last weekend, Xbox and Activision revealed more information regarding Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, providing a rudimentary peek into the themes of the upcoming title and announcing several major shifts to Call of Duty's tried and tested gameplay formula. This included the return of the classic prestige system from older entries, with over 1,000 levels to climb and a special reward for those who manage to reach the system's summit. Developer Treyarch is also implementing omnidirectional movement, which will let players run, jump, slide, and dive in any direction.

With that said, not all the new features are focused on the title's gameplay. On Activision's official support page, the publisher additionally confirmed Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will also use texture streaming technology for all of its features and that users will thereby need a stable internet connection not just for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's multiplayer, but all the game modes, including the single-player campaign. Activision explained the developers wanted to use texture streaming technology to provide high-fidelity graphics while also reducing Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's total file size. However, some fans were less than satisfied with the inclusion of the feature, with several users on social media pointing out that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 still required over 300 GB of storage space.

Activision additionally clarified that players will not have to pay extra money for a subscription to Game Pass Core or PlayStation Plus to access the campaign if they already own the game on a console. Notably, Black Ops 6 will also feature split-screen local multiplayer on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, though split-screen mode will sadly be unavailable for last-gen platforms to ensure stable performance while playing.
