Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Is Abandoning a Controversial Modern Warfare 3 Feature

Call of Duty Black Ops 6 is getting rid of a controversial feature that was recently introduced in the franchise, but there is a catch.

On June 9, alongside the official announcement for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, fans were cautioned to keep a close eye on August 28 for the third edition of Call of Duty NEXT, an annual event featuring developer interviews and live gameplay from content creators. NEXT will likely take place alongside the multiplayer beta launch for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Following the Xbox Games Showcase, the almost 30-minute Black Ops 6 Direct event unveiled key elements of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 with the NEXT event likely to expound on the game's multiplayer elements.

Black Ops 6 Direct Reveals New Improvements For Multiplayer Mode

The Xbox Games Showcase was succeeded by the Black Ops 6 Direct, which dished on some new improvements coming to multiplayer mode: "Multiplayer is also where you’ll test your skills and learn how to move like an action hero, with innovations like Omnimovement – allowing you to sprint, slide and dive in any direction – as well as Intelligent Movement (sprinting, mantling, and crouch assists allowing you to focus on achieving incredible and complex maneuvers with ease), increased enemy hit zones, an incredible lineup of gear, HUD optimizations, and the return of Theater Mode and Classic Prestige!"

On August 28, Activision, Treyarch, and associated studios will discuss the future of the franchise, which debuted in 2003 with the first-ever Call of Duty. Over the past two decades, Activision has released new sequels and spin-offs, contributing to Call of Duty's ranking as the fourth best-selling video game franchise, behind Pokemon, Tetris, and Mario. Call of Duty fans are also anticipating new changes in Call of Duty: Warzone at Call of Duty NEXT, as past events have offered updates for that year's main title while also discussing the franchise's smaller-scale releases.

Developed by Treyarch, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is set in the early 1990s at the tail end of the Cold War and during the transitional period in global politics in which the United States seeks to stand alone as a single dominating entity. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be released worldwide on October 25, 2024.
