Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Zombies was a bit of a mess, but below all the problems, there was some brilliant content to enjoy. Though crashes and bugs ensured that the mode got off to the worst possible start, promised features like Factions in Zombies never came to be, and the community despised the perk changes and HUD design, some of the maps were excellent. Thanks to some datamining, players now have a reason to return to the game, as some very well-hidden secrets are being discovered on said maps.

Without the datamining being done to Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, it is unlikely that any of the recent Easter eggs would have ever been found, as they are extremely complicated and can easily be failed if players do not know exactly what they are doing. However, some are very useful and allow players to approach a few maps in different ways, motivating players to give the divisive Black Ops 4 one more chance as they wait for Treyarch’s next game. When they do, they may find that it did not deserve as much hate as it initially received.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Zombies’ Many New Easter Eggs

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s newly discovered side quests going unfound makes plenty of sense, as players need to put in a lot of work to complete them. Alongside cypher-related secrets, players are able to get a few helpful unlocks that will help them survive. For instance, there is a simple free Kraken Easter egg that rewards players who can complete the dial step of Voyage of Despair before or on round 9. If they succeed, they can interact with some railing in the 3rd Class Berths in the ninth round. If they crouch walk while holding the interact button across a very specific, invisible path, they can get the free Wonder Weapon at the end. If players repeat this step after getting the Riot Shield upgrade, and add in some melee attacks before standing up, they can ride around in the flying car outside the boundaries of the map.

Dead of the Night, the first DLC map for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, offers another great Easter egg. Impossible to pull off without a guide, players need to open the maps’ doors and look at some record players in a specific order. They will then need to light some well-hidden candles with Wraith Fires before following an invisible ghost across the map, with the rewards including a jump scare, six perks, and the Homonculus equipment. The weapon players have out when completing the quest will also get unlimited ammo, making this extremely tough Easter egg one worth doing. Thanks to dataminers and content creators like MrDalekJD and Glitching Queen, players know the steps needed to complete these sneaky quests. With several secrets found on IX, too, it has become clear just how much content went undiscovered in the Chaos maps.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Zombies’ Resurgence Would Be Deserved

As mentioned earlier, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Zombies had problems. The ugly HUD and lack of promised features were detrimental, but an even bigger issue was that the community was unwilling to give The Chaos Story a proper chance. By splitting the community between two narratives, Treyarch ensured that longtime players would simply want the Chaos content to cease so that they could finally get to the conclusion of the Aether story. Players had been invested in characters like Richtofen and Nikolai for a decade, and they were unwilling to grow attached to new ones while their stories remained unfinished. Had this not been the case, and if Black Ops 4 focused fully on Chaos, then the game would likely have been better appreciated.

Now that the story is over and expectations are out the window, Zombies fans could have an easier time just playing and enjoying the Chaos content. If they try to appreciate it for what it is, they could find that it is far better than the community made it seem. Though Voyage of Despair is an average map, its setting is spectacular, and every other Chaos entry was strong. IX is hugely replayable, Dead of the Night is challenging and underrated due to its great Easter eggs, and Ancient Evil is a genuine masterpiece. Ironically, the Chaos story offers the best content in Black Ops 4, as the heavily criticized maps like Blood of the Dead and Alpha Omega were part of the Aether narrative.

Hopefully, trying these newfound Easter eggs will set players on the path to appreciating the good things about Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Zombies. Though the Aether story ending with a series of reimagined maps will always be a disappointment, and the Chaos story could stay unfinished forever, some of the Black Ops 4 maps are absolutely stellar. What does exist of the Chaos narrative was interesting, and there was some solid development for its crew, but many players were simply not ready for a whole new story at the time. With recent datamining showing how much thought went into crafting the Chaos story maps, perhaps they will finally get the love they deserve from the Zombies community. Though Black Ops 4’s flaws are constantly harped on, its strengths are not mentioned nearly enough.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
