A couple of days ago, Activision and Treyarch reconfirmed the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3's Zombies Chronicles by way of an official story reveal trailer, showing that the add-on will expand upon the narrative elements from past Zombies modes to add further substance to the forthcoming DLC. Speaking of enhancing the subject matter, it has also been revealed that the renowned Metal Gear Solid artist and character designer Yoji Shinkawa will be lending his talents by contributing new art to the first-person shooter's expansion.

As seen in the gallery below, Shinkawa's distinctive art style is on full display in the form of four separate posters made for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3's Zombies mode's main characters Tank Dempsey, Nikolai Belinski, Takeo Masaki, and Edward Richtofen. As it so happens, fans who go on to pre-order the upcoming DLC on PlayStation 4 will be privy to receive a dynamic theme featuring the art of Shinkawa.

Considering the fact that Shinkawa has been largely absent from the game development scene since Konami shut down Kojima Productions, Activision and Treyarch's ability to get the artist to work with them for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3's Zombies Chronicles is a significant achievement. As a matter of fact, Treyach co-studio head Jason Blundell basically expressed as much during the expansion's reveal a several days ago, saying, "I'm a huge fan of the Metal Gear series, so to be able to work with [Shinkawa] and have him realize our main characters in his very unique and distinctive style was an opportunity I really couldn't pass up."

Of course, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3's Zombies Chronicles is slated to feature many more goodies than the unique artistry of Yoji Shinkawa, as the expansion will be comprised of eight maps from three different titles from the first-person shooter franchise, with areas from World at War, Black Ops, and Black Ops 2 getting updated visuals. Not to mention, Activision and Treyarch will hold a special “8 Days of the Undead” event starting on May 16, where players on all platforms will receive double XP, and PlayStation 4 gamers will earn double XP in the DLC.

Bearing all of this in mind, it looks as if Activision and Treyarch are going all out to ensure that Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 fans have a special experience with the release of Zombies Chronicles next week. Thankfully, they won't have to wait much longer for the expansion to release, as it drops next Tuesday.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3's Zombies Chronicles DLC comes out on May 16, 2017 for PlayStation 4, with PC and Xbox One releases to follow thereafter.
