Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 has over 10,000 people playing the game at the time of this writing, even though it originally released all the way back in 2012 and there have been multiple CoD games since then. When it comes to Call of Duty, many fans often point to 2012's Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 as one of the best. It's one of the best-selling games in the franchise and one of the highest-rated, with many fans praising its campaign, multiplayer, and Zombies modes.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is easily one of the most persistently-popular video games ever made. In fact, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 still sells for around $49.99, even though it's over a decade old at this point. Black Ops 2 remains one of the most popular seventh generation multiplayer games, and now it's enjoying a spike thanks to word going around about Activision fixing the servers for the old-school Call of Duty games.

Activision recently fixed server issues that were keeping players from enjoying the online multiplayer modes for the Xbox 360/PS3-era Call of Duty games, including Black Ops 2. While there are still hackers and other problems impacting the games, players have returned to the older Call of Duty titles in large numbers, with over 10,000 people currently enjoying Black Ops 2 multiplayer.

There could be other explanations as to why Black Ops 2 player count has spiked. Besides the server issues being resolved, Black Ops 2 is heavily discounted as part of the Xbox Ultimate Game Sale. Since the game is still listed at a whopping $49.99 as its regular price, being able to get it for just $14.99, a 70% discount, is a massive steal. Black Ops 2 usually climbs up the Xbox sales charts whenever it goes on sale, so that could very well be another reason why so many people are playing the game right now.

Black Ops 2 isn't the only old-school Call of Duty game who is enjoying a comeback of sorts. Reports have indicated that the multiplayer populations for both the 2009 Modern Warfare 2 and the first Black Ops game are quite healthy right now as well. It's hard to say how long this old-school Call of Duty comeback will last, so anyone feeling nostalgic will want to give them a try as soon as possible.

With Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard nearing completion, it's possible old Call of Duty games will come to Xbox Game Pass. This could also fuel a spike in their player counts, and ensure that they are played for years to come.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is available now for PC, PS3, Wii U, and Xbox 360.
