Having been around for over two decades now, it is hardly a surprise that the Call of Duty franchise has offered so many iconic weapons. Alongside the Zombies-specific tools like the Ray Gun, Thundergun, and Wunderwaffe DG-2, Treyarch, Sledgehammer Games, and Infinity Ward have put their spin on hundreds of guns both real and fake. Regardless of whether players are wielding the satisfying AN-94 assault rifle in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, taking advantage of the broken Model 1887 shotguns in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, or gunning down enemies with Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’s futuristic Bal-27, there have been plenty of options over the years. This is all-but-guaranteed to continue being true in Call of Duty 2024.

Supposedly named Call of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War, this lengthy title will surely provide players with a number of guns from the titular era, albeit renamed due to hefty weapon licensing fees that Activision does not want to pay. While it remains to be seen if any of the guns end up being as iconic as Call of Duty: Ghosts' Honey Badger or the version of the Desert Eagle available in the original Modern Warfare, the Gulf War taking place in the early 1990s allows Treyarch to bring back some iconic guns while also introducing entirely new weapons. The full game will likely have dozens of guns, and get a dozen more post-launch, but some stand out as especially appealing additions to the FPS.

Leaks and rumors are beginning to form around 2024's Call of Duty entry, and its alleged Gulf War setting gives fans an idea of what maps to expect.

New Weapons That Could Feature in Call of Duty 2025

When looking at the guns used in Operation Desert Storm that have yet to feature in the Call of Duty franchise, a few weapons immediately stand out as interesting. One is the L85A1, a gun that (according to the Call of Duty wiki) was scrapped from the original Modern Warfare 2 and depicted in a Black Ops 2 cutscene, but was never actually usable. Treyarch could correct this missed opportunity, adding this bullpup Assault Rifle to the game’s launch lineup. The L1A1 Self-Loading Rifle is the British version of the FAL and boasts a unique-looking handle on the side, providing a slightly fresh semi-auto option, while the L2A3 is a modernized Sten that will be familiar to fans of the series’ World War 2 offerings. The Steyr MPi 69 is a potential newcomer, with the SMG’s design somewhat resembling an MP7, only thinner and longer. The Carl Gustaf M/45’s interesting stock would make it another fresh SMG for the games.

Returning Weapons That Could Feature in Call of Duty 2024

Considering how many guns the Call of Duty franchise has featured over the years, it is not too surprising that a lot of the weapons used in the real Operation Desert Storm have appeared at least once in other CoD games. However, this is not necessarily a bad thing, as the Gulf War taking place in the early 1990s allows it to fit nicely between the Cold War era games and the titles with modern settings. As such, it could end up feeling like the best of both worlds, with guns from both franchises able to be featured within the same release.

Zombies fans will be glad to know that the heavily-memed M14 will likely be a wall weapon once again due to its prevalence in the Gulf War, while the iconic AK-47 will surely be seen across all modes. The burst fire FAMAS, MP5 and MP5K SMGs, M16, and RPG-7 are all likely to make appearances. The beloved M1911 pistol feels like a lock for the game, while the L96A1 sniper from the original Black Ops and the R700 sniper from Call of Duty 4 could make a comeback. The M1919 Browning, M249, M60, and M240 could make for a solid LMG lineup, while the fan favorite AUG and Commando could return too. Since Call of Duty 2024 is said to be a Black Ops game, some version of the Galil or Grav can be expected. With even the M1 Carbine and M1 Garand used a bit in this war despite being outdated, there is room for old school weaponry to feature too, meaning a Gulf War game has tremendous potential from a weapon standpoint.
