After much anticipation, Call of Duty: Warzone has finally released globally today. As Infinity Ward's take on the battle royale genre, the game allows up to 150 players to battle in the city of Verdansk. Running on the same engine as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, veterans will see many returning weapons from the main series, but also some re-tuned mechanics to accommodate the massive multiplayer setting.

Because of the sheer chaos in a battle royale match, several elements have been changed to make gameplay less frustrating. Most importantly, players who bleed to death the first time aren't immediately out of the game or forced to rely on their three-man squad to assist them. Instead, Call of Duty: Warzone gives these players a second chance at life in several different ways: one based on solo skill, while others rely on team effort and purchases.

The Gulag (1v1)

After being eliminated the first time, players are sent to the Gulag, a prison specializing in one-on-one fights to the death. In this familiar Call of Duty location, they will witness several matches between other fallen players before getting dragged into a fight themselves. Winning the resulting brawl will revive players for free, no questions asked, except a debuff that states their next death is final. Getting wasted in the Gulag will also take a player out permanently unless their team redeploys them.

Self-Revive Kit

Alternatively, players can purchase a Self-Revive Kit from a Buy Station at many locations on the map for $4,500 acquired by completing contracts and getting kills. These stores are designated on the Tac-Map with a shopping cart icon. Using a Self-Revive Kit acts just as if a teammate stabilized the player, allowing them to get back into the fight without losing their weapons and gear if they make it past the recovery period. Be aware the player is extremely vulnerable while using the Self-Revive Kit.

Redeployment Token

On that note, Call of Duty: Warzone players can also purchase Redeployment Tokens from the Buy Station for their fallen teammates at $4,500 each. Whether a friend lost their Gulag duel or was unlucky multiple times, the Redeployment Token can bring players back if the team has enough cash. Redeploying a teammate, however, will restart them with a blank inventory, except for their handy pistol.

Since no option to revive a killed teammate comes cheap, players should brush up on their 1v1 skills to stand the best chance at securing their second wind. As the community becomes more familiar with the map and other elements like vehicles, expect everyone to be purchasing revival items while Gulag fights get much more difficult.

Call of Duty: Warzone is now available for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
