The Call of Duty franchise by Activision has been host to a plethora of milestones in the past, often related to player count and sales. Call of Duty: Warzone is no exception to this habit, now passing an impressive milestone by anyone's count.

Since Call of Duty: Warzone's successful release, it has seen continued traffic among the multiplayer player base with a player count of 30 million in mid-March. The player count has only increased since that point, surpassing a player count of 50 million. An announcement for the massive milestone has been made by the official Twitter account for Call of Duty, which can be seen below.

The 50 million player count is a considerable number by any metric. It seems that it has increased exponentially since its initial release, as well. Within Call of Duty: Warzone's first day of release, the title had already surpassed a player count of 6 million. It would soon hit the 15 million mark, now making it past 50 million.

There are likely multiple reasons for Call of Duty: Warzone's massive success. First and foremost, the franchise is already very popular and its existing fanbase likely carried over to Call of Duty: Warzone, and it is also free to play. This means that it will inherently get more downloads due to the game being free to redeem. Additionally, with each Call of Duty comes a migration of players from the previous iteration, so Call of Duty: Modern Warfare players may be more likely to play Call of Duty: Warzone given the fact that it is now the most recent Call of Duty iteration focused on multiplayer.

Elsewhere in the Call of Duty realm, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered has been released. Much to the dismay of fans, the game only contains the 2009 title's campaign with Call of Duty: Warzone intended as the focus for the multiplayer base otherwise disinterested in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's campaign. Moreover, Call of Duty: Warzone will likely continue to maintain this multiplayer base, if not see it rise, for weeks to come.

Call of Duty: Warzone is currently available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
