Something horrifying is happening in Call of Duty: Warzone just in time for Halloween. The new Haunting of Verdansk update has arrived in Warzone and it's giving players quite the startle across its new modes, spooky content, and frightening features.

The new Haunting of Verdansk update comes with quite a lot of spooky content. Modern Warfare and Warzone players can play new modes, enjoy Halloween themed gear, and even obtain licensed bundles from fan-favorite horror entities like Saw and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Perhaps chief among the new content in terms of excitement, and likely scares, is the new nighttime and zombie modes within Warzone.

There are tons of secrets hidden throughout Verdansk at dark in Warzone, including a ghost train that a few players have found. The zombie mode is horrifying based on the idea that players are trying to escape from the undead. In a twist to the battle royale formula, players can come back from the "undead" in the mode and soldiers attempt to fend off countless hoards. However, one of the biggest scares comes from the jump-scares inside of crates. In a normal scenario, players will be trying to run through buildings as quickly as possible to loot up everything in sight, so hiding a terrifying jump scare inside of a crate is both genius and hilarious.

The video that was posted by 47 on YouTube perfectly encapsulates the fear of the Warzone audience lately, as the eight-minute-long video captures dozens of players jumping out of their seats. The Haunting of Verdansk makes many changes to Warzone, many quite bone-chilling. But it seems as if none have gotten quite the reaction of the jump scares inside of the crates.

One of the fun parts of the update is that there are still so many secrets and surprises being uncovered. Players knew going in that there would be a Pumpkin Punisher Blueprint, for example, but the jump scares are something that caught people off guard. The aforementioned ghost train was a surprise, and players have even uncovered Leatherface's house from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It's pretty clear that the developers went all-out with this festive-themed update.

Whether it be players running around with villains from nightmarish movies in Warzone, the zombies mode causing a combination of fun and angst, or the jump scares terrorizing players, the Haunting of Verndask update is a love letter to the month of October and the spooky holiday that is Halloween.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
