Call of Duty: Warzone burst onto the battle royale scene in early March with tons of fanfare and with massive success. The game doesn't seem to be slowing down anytime soon, as Warzone has now surpassed 60 million players.

The official Call of Duty Twitter page has just tweeted out that Warzone has met a new milestone in player count. The explosive and fast-paced battle royale was rumored for months, and as soon as it finally dropped, players began jumping into matches nonstop.

The success of Warzone in just two months is undeniable, and so is its counterpart Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Warzone is a standalone game, but can also be played inside of Modern Warfare, which is now the best-selling COD game ever. Activision is certainly thrilled with the success of both.

Even as players continue to drop into the crazy and fun brawls of the battle royale, fans have been frustrated with the current state of Modern Warfare and Warzone. Game breaking glitches are found routinely, progress for the battle pass and game progression has been deleted, and the servers have had issues where players simply cannot find a match. It seems like the problems with the games, and the subsequent outcry from the community, hasn't negatively affected their success.

Activision and Infinity Ward will surely continue to support Warzone moving forward, as a new cold-war style map could be on the way. New updates are added frequently to the game, including guns, new contracts, and gameplay adjustments. So fans can expect more fun in Warzone into the near future.

Most implications also point to Warzone being supported through the next COD game, which is nice as recently Activision confirmed that Call of Duty 2020 is still on track. The idea would be that, even as Modern Warfare and Warzone are very connected now, when MW is sunsetted, Warzone would then be joined to the hip of Call of Duty 2020.

The success of both Black Out (the battle royale that came alongside Black Ops 4) and now Warzone shows that this is probably only the beginning of Call of Duty battle royales. Sledgehammer is working hard on the COD game that will arrive after Treyarch's, and rumors already point to Call of Duty 2021 having its own battle royale as well.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
