A leak from the PlayStation Store Germany page has confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered is in development, revealing a trailer, release date, and more. Surprisingly, it seems the new remaster is supposed to drop tomorrow, March 31, at the price tag of $29.99. It's worth mentioning that there will be no multiplayer or spec ops included, as this is just a remaster of the original campaign, not a continuation of the Modern Warfare soft reboot.

In short, players should be expecting a revamped but true to the original Modern Warfare 2 experience, comprised of new textures, animation, lighting, and more. And as true to the original as it gets, the remastered campaign still includes No Russian, the game's most controversial mission.

As many may recall, the original level included a warning of "disturbing content which may offend some players," revealing that the level is also entirely optional. It is currently unknown if this is the case in the remaster, but presumably, it is. Players control undercover CIA agent Joseph Allen during a mass shooting at a Moscow airport. "Remember, No Russian" is the titular phrase as the terrorist leader Makarov reminds his followers not to reveal their origins, killing the player at the end of the mission to pin the attack on the United States.

Some German players on PS4 have managed to get their hands on Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered and revealed that this mission is there, unchanged, and gruesomely violent. This ties into franchise's depiction of the cruelties of war, such as Modern Warfare's child soldier mission and inclusion of White Phosphorus, and it was controversial from the get-go. Many supported it, but developers, members of the publisher, game testers, and eventually the wider public found this to be incredibly offensive.

It remains to be seen if its inclusion here stirs the same controversy back up, but Call of Duty has had its fair share of that. Needless to say, between No Russian, child soldiers, and White Phosphorus, Modern Warfare is a gritty, terribly realistic franchise, but what else can the subtitle Modern Warfare suggest.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered is rumored for release on March 31 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
