Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is announcing the details around its quickly approaching Season 3. If the litany of new intel is any indication, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War's arsenal is about to become even more diverse.

Developer Treyarch's sixth entry in its Black Ops series is currently in its second season. Rolled out in tandem with the free-to-play Call of Duty: Warzone, Black Ops Cold War's Season 2 saw its own addition of new weapons, including ones like the FARA 83, Machete, and R1 Shadowhunter Crossbow. The current season also introduced players to Outbreak, an all-new open-world style Zombies mode that ditches many of the conventions established by the long-running co-op mode.

Fully detailed in a blog post on Call of Duty's website, the latest batch of post-launch content looks to add further depth to the game. Beyond adding things such as new maps and modes, Black Ops Cold War is adding a dynamic array of six new weapons. All of the weapons being introduced can be attained through completing related challenges or reaching a certain tier, although the Season 3 Battle Pass is required. Conversely, players can purchase the new weapon blueprints as they become available in the store. The list of all of the new weapons players can soon get their hands on is as follows:

call of duty black ops cold war season 3 weapons
  • PPSh-41 (SMG) - a classic weapon many Call of Duty veterans will recognize, the PPSh-41 features a moderate damage per shot with a high rapid-fire rate. Its high-capacity magazine is ideal for players leading the charge and eliminating threats in tight spaces. The storied SMG will be available at launch by reaching Tier 15 of the Season 3 Battle Pass.
  • Swiss K31 (Sniper Rifle) - the Swiss K31 is a bolt-action sniper rifle, boasting exceptional accuracy and large ammo capacity. The long-range weapon's fast rechamber and aiming speeds are ideal for sniper experts, or those looking to be aggressive from a distance. The Swiss K31 is available starting at Black Ops Cold War and Warzone's Season 3 launch week.
  • Ballistic Knife (Melee) - first introduced in the original Call of Duty: Black Ops, this iteration of the Ballistic Knife has an interesting additional feature. The spring-action knife launcher allows players to silently fire lethal (and retrievable) blades. The new melee weapon is available for Black Ops Cold War players at the launch of the new season, and will become available to Warzone players mid-season.
  • CARV.2 (Tactical Rifle) - launching at some point during the upcoming season, the CARV.2 is a high-damage, high-bullet-velocity burst-fire tactical rifle. Sharing similarities to the M16, the CARV.2 possesses moderate firepower with solid recoil control and large magazine, ideal for mid to long-range encounters.
  • AMP63 (Pistol) - Adding some depth to Black Ops Cold War's Secondary category, the AMP63 is effectively a pistol and SMG hybrid. The new sidearm features a full-auto firing rate, making it a highly effective tool to use in close quarters. The AMP63 launches in-season as well.
  • Baseball Bat (Melee) - a bit of a step-up compared to the wooden stake melee weapon, the Baseball Bat is ideal for players who love one-hit melee kills. The Baseball Bat will be available in Multiplayer, Zombies, and Warzone.

Players looking for ways to unlock the Ballistic Knife, CARV.2, AMP63, and Baseball Bat can do so using two different methods. They can either complete an in-game challenge to obtain the base free weapon, or just pick up a bundle with a Blueprint version when it appears in the in-game Store. While the Call of Duty website states the PPSh-41 can be obtained by reaching Tier 15, no such specificity is given for the Swiss K31. This could be a typo on Activision or Treyarch's part, or it could possibly indicate the sniper rifle will simply become available once Season 3 launches in a few days.

In addition to adding new weapons and maps, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is adding a new batch of Operators. While three out of four new characters are Warsaw Pact newcomers, players will be pleased to know the fourth is none other than Captain Price. The Modern Warfare alum is free for all players at the start of the third season, which, regardless of a Battle Pass, is something all Call of Duty fans can appreciate.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
