Treyarch Studios' newest title, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, has only been out for a couple of days but the game's multiplayer has been dominated by one weapon in particular. Seemingly, every player is running a loadout that is led by the almighty MP5. However, Treyarch announced today that it has rolled out a nerf for the powerful SMG.

Since Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War launched, players have quickly found that the MP5 dominates the competition in multiplayer. The team at Treyarch heard the community's feedback regarding the SMG and rolled out a quick fix for the MP5. After the nerf, the MP5's base effective damage range has been decreased by 33% and the initial recoil for the gun has been adjusted in some fashion.

Although Treyarch doesn't mention the MP5 outright, it does mention "Submachine Gun Alpha," which is the MP5. Game Designer Tony Flame mentions in a quote tweet that the first post-launch update focuses on the "one gun we've gotten the most feedback on." Also, the Twitter account Call of Duty News was quick to point out that the MP5's effective damage range is now 10.6m down from the 15.24m it was at launch.

This is just the first update for weapons that Treyarch has rolled out since Black Ops Cold War launched, however, players are asking the studio to address the game's underpowered sniper rifles. During the Black Ops Cold War beta players using bolt action sniper rifles were dropping enemies with one shot, regardless of where that shot would hit. Now, after the full release, the sniper rifles in Black Ops Cold War are being called vastly underpowered by Twitch streamer Zephy, who says that even the fastest sniper rifle in Black Ops Cold War is slower than Warzone's snipers.

Weapons aren't the only area of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War that players are taking issue with, as some of the community's biggest voices are calling for the game's Skill Based Matchmaking to be dialed back. Popular Call of Duty streamer Nadeshot recently voiced his concerns over the SBMM in Black Ops Cold War, saying that the lobbies are "too difficult" and will drive many big creators away from the game.

While Treyarch works to balance the weapons in its newest game, Call of Duty players are still wondering how Black Ops Cold War weapons will work in Call of Duty: Warzone. Both games feature weapon systems that are fairly different, and Infinity Ward has been hard at work to make sure Warzone is a balanced experience. So far, players of both games are still in the dark about how these two games will come together.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
