Persona

On the surface, Ninny Spangcole is a young blonde woman who often styles her hair into pigtails and tries very hard to stay out of the public eye due to the fact that she's a singer in the immensely popular band, Cecile Die Twice. Ninny is abrasive, harsh and even rude in her interactions with other people, with her fiery personality and appearance being reminiscent of BLEACH character Hiyori Sarugaki. However, despite the fame, Ninny has other ambitions related to the part of herself she keeps secret from the residents of "Front" London. Introduced in the very beginning of the BURN THE WITCH narrative, Ninny is shown to have reservations or a specific disdain for the dreams sold by fairy tales, especially the common trope where a girl is subject to a magic spell that briefly appears to be granting her what she wants – to become a princess and start something with a handsome suitor – but in actuality, she isn't doing the choosing at all. The spell wears off before long, and for Ninny, people who admire this kind of narrative lack the intelligence to figure out why the spell wears off at all.

For Ninny, it is far better to cast the spell than to have it cast upon you, and this introduction to the character sets her up to have a rather cynical outlook informing her single-most important objective: to climb the ranks of Wing Bind and join the Sabres, another division in the organization that is known as the Tactical Corps. Ninny's disillusionment with fairy tales may be directly related to her apparent disillusionment with fame. As one of the singer in a popular band, Ninny is often accosted by fans and the paparazzi, but because she lacks the patience to deal with them, she isn't above using magic to temporarily blind her pursuers. When tabloids spread lies and misinformation about her, Ninny simply could not care less. Evidently, her work for Wing Bind is far more important to her than anything else, and the reasons for that may be hidden deep in her past. Her ambition makes her less interested in monetary gain as she seeks fame specifically for the work she's doing in Wing Bind.

Abilities

Noel and Ninny from Burn the Witch

Equipped with her very own Witch Kit (a weapon in the shape of an antique firearm), Ninny has a number of interesting abilities, including a form of teleportation that uses a coin and her Witch Kit to open up a tunnel that can take her and other people to other locations within the city. Her magical expertise is nothing to scoff at, as she can effectively use various spells without incantation, and when she does use incantations, the spells are naturally much more powerful. Her physical abilities are also notable, with Ninny being able to continue battle despite sustaining injuries against Dark Shelby and later against Cinderella.

Despite being rude, abrasive, impatient and extremely opinionated, Ninny also really cares about protecting the citizens of Reverse London from Dragons. Her passion for this job is clear because she knows a lot about the ins and outs of Wing Bind; of Dragons more so than her partner Noel. When her former bandmate and CDT lead-singer, Macy Baljure, comes out of the woodwork after quitting the band herself, Ninny is eager to keep her away from the truth of Dragons; however, by then Macy had already become a Dragonclad and become attached to Cinderella, one of the legendary Dragons known as a Märchen. When she is attacked by a Dark Dragon that had disguised itself as Balgo Parks' childhood friend Shelby for over ten years, Ninny's first concern was to tell Balgo to escape. As we come to know fairly well over the course of BURN THE WITCH, Balgo is very annoying, so neither Ninny nor Noel want to have much to do with him, but even the impatient Ninny was able to separate her disdain for him from her job.

Macy's relationship with Ninny is also one of extreme infatuation; and the only reason she was able to stay in the band in the first place was because Ninny made her feel like she could be there. On some level, Macy sees Ninny the way Soi-Fon sees Yoruichi – as a strong and capable superior for whom they have developed obsessive levels of romantic interest. So Macy's actions over the course of BURN THE WITCH are also some that have warranted a negative response from Ninny; however, Ninny never makes Macy feel bad and tries to protect her from the looming repercussions of her harbouring a Dragon in Reverse London. Essentially, Ninny is tough, loud, impatient; but also honest to a fault and extremely passionate when it comes to the things she wants to do.
