  • The next season has not been officially announced yet, so fans will have to wait for news on the release date and more chapters of the manga.

The fifth and latest season of the popular anime Bungo Stray Dogs just finished last week with its 11th episode. But more than the actual finale of the season, fans are talking about something else, and that is what came onto the screen after the story itself finished. Once the episode finished rolling the credits, the words "To be continued" appeared on the screen, assuring everyone that there are still more seasons to come.

Bungo Stray Dogs first aired in December 2016, and has been airing on and off over the past seven years. The manga, created by Kafka Asagiri and Sango Harukawa, has been published since 2011, and has not yet been completed. The series follows the adventures of the Armed Detective Agency, whose goal is to protect the city of Yokohama from the mafia. They do so by carrying out missions assigned by the agency, focused around the main character Atsushi Nakajima, as both he and the other main characters all have supernatural powers that they use in their work.

This latest season of Bungo Stray Dogs aired from July to September 2023, and comprised 11 episodes. It received a very high rating according to MyAnimeList of 8.72, with overall good reviews. Initially, when the final episode first aired on September 20th, there was actually a mistake in the Japanese caption, which read "Finished." However, by Friday the anime's official Twitter announced this was a mistake, and assured fans that another season is still coming. The text has since been updated to the correct "To be continued."

The next season of Bungo Stray Dogs has not yet been officially announced beyond this tease, though. There is no premiere date, trailer, promotional art, or even a title yet. Fans may have to wait at least a few seasons of anime before they can watch the next part of the story.

Season five of the anime covered the 8th and 9th arcs of the manga, the Kamui Revelation Arc and the Vampire Infection Outbreak Arc. This caught the anime up to chapter 110 of the manga that has been published so far.

The bad news for fans who are impatient and hoping to read the manga ahead of the anime's release is that so far, there are only 110 chapters published. That means that all the available story in the manga has already been brought to life by the anime.

So not only do fans need to wait for news about when the next season of the anime is coming, but they also need to wait for the next chapters of the manga. This means that the wait will likely be even longer, so regardless of which you are waiting for, it is better to plan on nothing happening quickly.

But there is good news. Since the manga for Bungo Stray Dogs is ongoing, that means that the anime will still have content that it can cover. Until the manga finishes, the anime can technically continue for as many seasons as it remains popular and fans continue to watch it. Considering how many people watched this latest season, the love for Bungo Stray Dogs has not reached its limits yet, and there are still more seasons very likely on the horizon. At the time of publishing, Bungo Stray Dogs has five seasons and 61 episodes.
