Bungie has raised more than $200,000 for Turkey and Syria, following an earthquake that occurred within the region on February 6, 2023. The tragedy has understandably prompted charitable responses from numerous groups and individuals, with much more relief still needed beyond what Bungie and others have already provided.

The 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Turkey and Syria left thousands dead in a region already experiencing substantial hardship during recent years. The estimated number of lives lost has continued to climb in the days following the seismic event, leading to numerous relief efforts from different sectors. The game community itself has a long history of contributing to important causes, as witnessed earlier this year when Awesome Games Done Quick 2023 raised over $2.6 Million for charity. The loss of life in Turkey and Syria certainly qualifies as a worthy target for such assistance.

Bungie announced on Twitter that the Bungie Foundation has raised more than $200,000 for earthquake relief in a mere 24-hour period. Individuals who donate to the response campaign receive a Compassion Concentric emblem designed to support humanitarian efforts, which they can redeem directly to their Bungie account. A field on the donation form allows givers to provide their Bungie ID, so they can receive the emblem. Only 1 emblem will be awarded per unique donor, and donors can optionally donate an additional $1 to cover any associated processing costs. The organization has made emblems available on numerous occasions in the past, as when Bungie released a Destiny 2 Black Lives Matter emblem and pin.

Bungie has earned itself a lot of positive press in recent months, as it continues to build the Destiny 2 world. Although that game has experienced various growing pains as it continues to evolve, gamers have praised Bungie's communication and openness throughout the process. The company has remained responsive to community needs, and its desire to carry that admirable tendency beyond the game world it created is good to see.

The devastating effects of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria will be felt in the region for years to come. Relief efforts are certain to continue for a time, as well. Streamer Mizkif raised over $80K for Turkey and Syria relief, and other web personalities likely will follow suit if they haven't already.
