Destiny developer Bungie reveals plans to launch a new video game series. Bungie has not announced the next game it plans to release after the widely successful launch of Destiny 2 in 2017, but this gives fans some idea of what to expect next from the developer.

Speaking to IGN, Bungie CEO Pete Parson said that while the company has "a pretty specific path to make sure we transform Destiny," Bungie would also like to "have other franchises within the marketplace." Parsons also said that “We need to build our publishing group, but part of our vision is also to become a multi-franchise entertainment company.” The decision to move into publishing means that Bungie could potentially become a major rival to Activision, the company it split from at the beginning of 2019.

Parsons speaks about Bungie's early days and some of the games that it made back in the 1990s, when the company was a publisher and a developer like it is now. However, this doesn't mean that the company bring back games like RPG adventure Minotaur: The Labyrinths of Crete or first-person shooter series Marathon. Bungie had suggested that a Marathon reboot would happen but it seems like that is no longer happening.

It's more likely that the next game from Bungie is a game called Matter, which it filed a trademark for in the EU a year ago. Bungie has kept quiet on the trademark filing, which seems to be for a new IP, but fans are excited about the developer potentially making another huge sci-fi adventure that is as colorful as the trademarked logo suggests. The company may also have several other irons in the fire, as Parsons also hints at the "games" that Bungie could release between now and 2025.

2025 may seem like a long time away, and it is, but fans will surely be delighted that Bungie has big plans and that it is working on them now. The sales of the Destiny series, the number of people enjoying Destiny 2 and its content updates years after release, and the response to things like Shadowkeep confirms that Bungie has a good amount of people following its every move. With a long and very positive track record of making quality shooters and RPGs, these fans will likely give an enthusiastic welcome to whatever Bungie is doing.
