It would appear that Bungie is in the process of making full use of the fact that the Destiny series is fully owned and operated by the developer after the split from Activision several years ago. In that process, Bungie is looking to join the group of AAA developers bringing games to TV and film, with plans to take the ongoing story and lore of Destiny to centerstage for several new projects.

News of this latest direction for Destiny comes from a job listing by the developer looking for someone to fill the available position of Senior Executive, Development. The position itself also holds a "Film, TV, Transmedia" specification, indicating that whoever fills it will be in charge of organizing a multimedia series of new content around the narrative of the franchise.

In the job listing itself, Bungie indicates that the executive who ultimately takes this position will "drive projects that extend the Destiny franchise into new categories including TV, films, books, comics and audio formats." So, while the film and TV projects are the ones that might draw the most eyes, Bungie seems to be looking to expand out as far as possible to get new content out around Destiny in all different mediums. Several of these formats, such as books and comics, are nothing new to gaming in general, as dozens of classic franchises have comic or graphic novel adaptations, as well as both animated and live action films centered around established IPs.

Savathun's in-game debut has been building for years.

In addition to the position itself, the listing also makes mention to the Destiny Universe Leadership Team, as well as a Creative Director that will direct the expansion of the franchise's universe in the future. Considering the massive backlog of Destiny lore that Bungie has available to work with, there are already a fair number of narratives to pull from in order to develop this new push towards multimedia. So, fans of the series and players that have taken the time to dive into the lore of the series should be happy to see new adaptations coming in all of these new forms.

Prior to Bungie's move to keeping development updates on Destiny as the company's primary function, the developer has had a history of taking games into this territory of multimedia. With many Bungie orchestrated books, films, and mini-series built around the Halo series standing as favorites among fans, the developer has previous successes to fall back on. If the developer puts the same amount of passion into a Destiny animation or book series as it did with previous IPs, then there is plenty for fans to be excited for.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
