Bugsnax is a charming game filled with an array of adorable creatures to catch across the many diverse biomes located on Snaktooth Island. But not every Bugsnak is easy to catch, and some require a bit of coaxing before they'll be lured into the player's trap. This is where the sauces, a set of condiments that cater to specific Bugsnax, come in.

The most elusive of these sauces is Cheese Sauce; while many of these sauces can be found across different biomes in Bugsnax, Cheese Sauce only grows naturally in one environment. Getting to this locale and reaching the Cheese Sauce bushes once there can be a bit tricky, but fortunately, this guide can help any players who themselves having a difficult time.

How To Unlock Sizzling Sands

Sizzling Sands is where players can find Cheese Sauce, but to unlock it, they'll need to progress through the story until they've completed the "Break Time!" quest. After the strange Bugsnax sighting in the middle of the night, players will be tasked with bringing Floofty, Shelda, and Eggabell back to Snaxburg.

Shelda can be found in the Sizzling Sands, which is most easily reached by crossing the bridge on the far side of Scorched Gorge, though there's also a secret entrance in Boiling Bay.

Once there, players can find Shelda meditating on the far side of the desert near a small tent. She lets the player know that she doesn't eat Bugsnax, instead choosing to subsist on a diet of Cheese Sauce. She asks the player to find her some, which starts her main quest line and also points players toward the Cheese Sauce.

How To Find Cheese Sauce

Shelda will let players know that they can find Cheese Sauce plants "within the great maw of stone," which is a pretty straightforward riddle considering the many Grumpus statues that litter the desert.

Finding the right statue might seem like the real challenge, but it's also fairly straightforward: it's the statue directly across from Shelda.

a statue of a grumpus sits on top of a large rock. within its mouth are two plants. in the middle of the screen is the word "cheese" with 11/20 after it.

Two Cheese Sauce plants are growing inside the statue's mouth, far out of the player's reach. Fortunately, the Snakgrappler tool can latch onto the bushes and harvest the plants from a distance.

Players will only need three to satisfy Shelda, but players can stock up as much as they want as the plants refill after just a few seconds. Once players have acquired Cheese Sauce for the first time, Wampus will grow it on his farm for easy refills.

Cheese Sauce is handy for catching a variety of Bugsnax, as it's beloved by many of the creatures across most of the game's environments. Some of the most challenging Bugsnax to catch can be lured by Cheese Sauce, including the Scorpenyo, Preying Picantis, and Sandopede.

Bugsnax is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
