Brotato is a new free-to-play title on Steam that has combined features that the players loved from all-time classics such as The Binding of Isaac, and new games like Vampire Survivors. In the game, the player has access to numerous weapons ranging from a simple stick to a bazooka. Each weapon has its own type.

The player will have to overcome 20 waves of enemies with timers. After each one, they have a break to upgrade their gear, choose mutations, and buy items to help them in their survival. There are tens of unique characters in the game each with their preferred weapon and damage types, helping the player have a head-start when the right combination is used.

The Brawler character specializes in hand-to-hand combat, fending off aliens with nothing but their hands and fists as preferred weapons. There are possible combinations of items and upgrades that will enable the player to achieve victory easier and make the experience all the more satisfying. These are the best stats to focus on while playing as the Brawler.

7 Fists

The players should fill their slots with Fists as soon as possible, as they will receive a hefty bonus to their dodge chance very early in their run. Until better unarmed variants are unlocked, such as Flaming Brass Knuckles and Power Fist, the Fist does more than a good job of both dealing a decent amount of damage and providing the player room with its Knockback rate.

It should be noted that those who prefer a safer approach may include a Hand or two in their loadout, which lets players access more Knockback and keep a safe distance from the enemy.

6 Maximum Health

Raising Max HP is an underrated upgrade that many players tend to forget about, but it makes the difference between life and death when faced with a strong enemy. Items that raise this stat should be prioritized until the player reaches an optimal maximum HP. Once in the last 5–7 waves of the game, players will find higher tier upgrades that offer stronger buffs such as +8 Max HP. These are the ones that should not be neglected.

There are also a great number of items that increase important stats for this class, such as Dodge and Speed, while decreasing maximum health points. The player should be careful while investing in these kinds of items and not go below an optimal amount of health.

5 Dodge

Players who start the game as The Brawler will begin with +15% dodge, which is a great boon considering that they will get pretty close to the enemy. Playing with unarmed weapons also boosts dodge chance up to +15% with 6 weapons equipped at once. With this perk in mind, it is advised that players do not upgrade their weapons without filling all their slots, and then upgrading their weapons with the ones they find.

It is also an important feature that players can buy a weapon when they have one equipped, provided that they are in the same tier. Additionally, it should be noted that the chance to dodge an incoming attack is capped at 60%, so any upgrade above that will be unnecessary.

4 HP Regeneration

Brotato Brawler final build

While playing as The Brawler, players should prefer HP regeneration over Life Steal, because the weapons that best suit this character do not provide an additional Life Steal boost.

Moreover, this stat is a safer choice of sustainability as it is guaranteed to heal the player whether they damage an enemy or not. Higher rates will enable the player to take more hits and continue their fight for longer, and when combined with high maximum HP and speed, the player is virtually immortal, if played correctly.

3 Speed

Choosing the Legs 3 upgrade

Players who give the speed stat the importance it deserves shall prevail in their skirmish against evil. When facing enemies that shoot projectiles, it is with speed that the player can get out of the way, and catch up with the attacker to take care of them.

Speed also aids the player when dealing with melee enemies as they will be able to get in and out of a group more easily. The importance of being able to run faster than the enemy is demonstrated throughout the animal kingdom, and it is also the case in Brotato.

2 Garden

The Brawler near a Garden with berries

The player should buy the Garden item whenever possible because it provides a constant amount of berries that the player can use anytime they need. However, it is best to save berries for times when the player struggles to stay out of danger.

The more Gardens to have, the higher the player's chances of survival is, so savor the sweet berries from the Garden of Eden carefully.

1 Ranged Damage

The Brawler with 6 fists at wave 8

Players can use this stat to get items that decrease Ranged Damage while raising others, as they will not be using any ranged weapons and therefore do not need to pay attention to them.

Another stat that can be decreased in order to raise more useful ones is Elemental Damage, players who use only Fists and Hands should not pay attention to this stat either as they will not be dealing with anything related.

Brotato is available in Early Access on PC.
