Fast X added a couple of new faces to the franchise’s already impressive cast, namely Brie Larson and Jason Momoa, and it’s little surprise to find out these two pay off the Fast and Furious family theme as direct descendants of Mr. Nobody and Hector Reyes, respectively.

While the new villain, Dante, already had some bits about his past revealed in the first Fast X trailer, there were still lingering questions over Tess' connection to Dominic Toretto and the rest of the gang. It’s not as if Larson and Momoa are the only new additions to the roster, as West Side Story's Rita Moreno, Alan Richtson (Jack Reacher), and Daniela Melchior (Suicide Squad) are also joining them. However, the ties Tess and Dante have to past Fast and Furious characters is what sets them apart.

That’s precisely what Larson said during a recent interview with Total Film (via GamesRadar), where she explained that Tess is indeed Mr. Nobody's (Kurt Russell) daughter. "She is technically Agency, but she's kind of a bridge, in a way. She doesn't go along with the way that the Agency's headed now that her father isn't there,” Larson said. Tess will look to be an ally for Dom and the rest of the family, especially since Richtson's character, Agent Rimes, has an entirely different approach as the Agency's new head.

Brie Larson as Tess in Fast X trailer

Fellow agent Little Nobody (Scott Eastwood) has been confirmed as a returning cast member since the start. However, combined with Tess' background, the pair could offer a potential avenue for Mr. Nobody to return after his ambiguous death in F9. Besides all the minor characters set to reprise their roles, including Cardi B's Leysa, there are reasons to believe that fellow singers Don Omar and Tego Calderón could also return, with some rumors also suggesting Gal Gadot's Gisele might rise from the dead too.

Suffice it to say, Fast X and the subsequent final installment in the franchise are setting up a big reunion involving nearly every Fast and Furious character. As Larson says, Tess will probably spend much of the movie trying to earn Dom's trust as the crew struggles to fight off Dante's threats against the family.

Fast X is lined up as one of the biggest blockbusters of the year, one that will follow up the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3's swan song entry as movie theaters continue to show signs of a definite recovery in the post-pandemic era.

Fast X is scheduled for release on May 19, 2023.
