Breath Of The Wild is an open-world game with a huge map to explore. In that map are several items that are required for Link to finish his quest to save Zelda and free Hyrule from Calamity Ganon. A torch, while seemingly minor, is actually required for several things that will make the player's life a lot easier. They're needed for several major and side quests, as well as just being handy to have around.

This torch will stay lit once ignited, but if you put it away, the flame will be extinguished until you light it again.

Torches in Breath Of The Wild are a distinct item, as opposed to previous games in the franchise where flame must be carried via a wooden weapon or tree branch. As the item description states, they will stay lit until Link puts it away by pressing B, or in the rain.

Torches count as melee weapons, meaning they take up a melee weapon slot. They can be used as weapons, though they have incredibly low strength and durability.

Guaranteed Torch Locations In Breath Of The Wild

The good news is that Link is never too far from a torch. If the player is looking for a torch, then they're guaranteed to find one in any of these locations:

  • Camps: Occasionally, in the woods, Link will come across some camp settlements made by other adventurers. There will be a torch on the ground nearby.
  • Stables: Next to the Cooking Pots, typically leaning against the stable exterior.
  • Cooking Pots: Where there is food, there will be fire. Anywhere that Link can find a Cooking Pot, he will also find a torch nearby to help light it.
  • Akkala and Hateno Ancient Tech Labs: As both Tech Labs require a blue flame to activate them, the game provides a torch leaning against the exterior of the lab.
  • From the Old Man: At the very start of the game, Link can find a torch by speaking to the Old Man. The Old Man will recommend it is not used as a weapon. Additionally, returning to the Old Man's shack at any point in the game is another way to get a torch in Breath Of The Wild.

Breath Of The Wild is available now on Nintendo Switch and Wii U.
