The Gerudo Wasteland in Breath of the Wild is to southwest of Central Hyrule. Unfortunately for beginners, the hot weather can be dangerous for Link. Players will want to invest in heat-resistant gear before traversing the desert. There are several Shrines in the wasteland, but they're all hidden and tied to sidequests/Shrine Quests.

The Seven Heroines is one of the Shrine Quests closer to Breath of the Wild's Gerudo Desert Gateway. Players will need to solve a puzzle in order to reveal the Shrine. Although Link can complete this quest at any time, it's better to start it later in a playthrough.

Where is the Seven Heroines Shrine Quest?

legend of zelda breath of the wild gerudo wasteland

The Seven Heroines Shrine Quest is east of Gerudo Town and Kara Kara Bazaar. The statues can be found in the East Gerudo Ruins. Since Link can't walk/sprint very fast in the sand, it's easier to take a Sand Seal out to the East Gerudo Ruins. There are two Sand Seals outside Gerudo Town. Crouch by pressing down on the left stick, then slowly approach the seal. Once Link is close enough, press A-button.

If Link has the Gerudo Set and can enter Gerudo Town, there's a Gerudo near the left entrance who trains Sand Seals. Speak to her and Link can rent one for 20 rupees. Although they're just as timid as wild Sand Seals, Gerudo Town seals won't flee from Link if he's thrown off by an enemy.

When riding Sand Seals, make sure Link's equipped shield isn't ready to break. Players may want to use common shields (ex: Bokoblin Shield) when sledding with Sand Seals.

Alternatively, players can reach their destination by flying south from the Gerudo Tower. In fact, it's recommended to approach this trial from the mountains than it is to enter from the desert.

Players will need the following to complete the Shrine Quest:

  • Magnesis Rune
  • Heat-resistant or Cold-resistant gear (depending on the time of day)
  • Revali's Gale (recommended)

Link won't need to talk to anyone to start the Shrine Quest, but he may get clues about the Seven Heroines if he speaks to some of the NPCs in Gerudo Town.

At the base of each statue is a pedestal with a circular indent. Use Magnesis to spot metal spheres buried in the sand. There are seven spheres with their own unique designs. They need to be placed into the pedestal with the matching heroine.

All but one of the spheres can be found in the sands of the East Gerudo Ruins. The sphere with the yellow "o" symbol is on top of the northeast statue. Players will need to climb the ladder of the statue or use Revali's Gale to reach it. If players are flying in from the Gerudo Tower, try to land on it from above. Use Magnesis to push/throw the sphere onto the ground below.

The insignias on the spheres are:

  • A red comma (,)
  • An orange caret (^)
  • Two purple parallel lines (||)
  • A blue teardrop
  • A green integral ()
  • A gray colon (:)
  • A yellow circle (o)

Use the above image to see which sphere goes with which heroine. If players are still struggling, then going clockwise from the wasteland entrance of the ruins/path to Gerudo Town, place the following:

  1. Red comma (,)
  2. Orange caret (^)
  3. Yellow circle (o)
  4. Gray colon (:)
  5. Green integral (∫)
  6. Blue teardrop
  7. Purple lines (||)

If this is done properly, the Korsh O'hu Shrine will reveal itself and the Shrine Quest will be marked Complete. Go inside and retrieve the Flamespear from the chest. Then, speak to Korsh O'hu to get the Shrine's Spirit Orb.

Where's the Eighth Heroine?

loz botw eighth heroine sidequest sand boots

There are actually Eight Heroines in the Gerudo Wasteland, but for some reason, the Eighth Heroine is nowhere to be seen. Her statue is located in the opposite direction of the East Gerudo Ruins. North of the Gerudo Highlands, players will find the statue in the crevice northwest of Gerudo Summit. If players have the CameraRune, snap a picture of it from bust to head. There's a man named Bozai outside Gerudo Town who will give Link the Sand Boots as thanks for locating the Eighth Heroine.

While players are in the Gerudo Highlands, backtrack to the Gerudo Summit and look for a broken sword statue. This is the Eighth Heroine's sword. It's unknown how it got to where it is, but take a picture anyway. After getting the Sand Boots, Bozai will send Link back to the Gerudo Highlands to locate the heroine's sword. As a reward, Link will get the Snow Boots.

Players should note that it isn't necessary to locate the Eighth Heroine to complete Korsh O'hu's Shrine Quest. If they don't want Sand Boots or Snow Boots, then they can ignore the Eighth Heroine sidequest entirely. However, wearing Sand Boots or Snow Boots will allow Link to walk/run much easier in sand and snow respectively. Thus, if players intend on exploring the Hebra Region or Gerudo Wasteland on foot, then it's recommended to find the Eighth Heroine and complete these two sidequests.
