Players can start a fire in Breath of the Wild by following any one of the following methods:

Use a Flint

  1. Access the inventory.
  2. Hold one Wood and one Flint.
  3. Drop both items on the ground, ensuring they are close to each other.
  4. Attack the Flint using a metal weapon to start a fire.

This method also works for unlit campfires or cooking pots.

Use Flammable Items

Flammable items like torches, tree branches, and wooden weapons can be used to start a fire.

  1. Use a flammable item and attack a torch, lantern, campfire, or lava.
  2. Move with the lit item to the new location and attack dropped wood or an unlit campfire.

Normal arrows can also be used to start a fire. Equip the bow and arrow and go near a lit fire. Once the arrow is on fire, shoot the arrow on dropped wood or an unlit campfire.

Use Fire-based Weapons

Breath of the Wild has several fire-based weapons like bomb arrows, fire rods, fire arrows, and the flameblade that can be equipped to set things on fire. Players must shoot or attack using fire-based weapons on dropped wood or an unlit campfire to start a fire, but they must be cautious when using bomb arrows.

Strike Red Chuchu Jelly

Players can find Fire Chuchus in hot areas like Death Mountain. Fire Chuchus drop Red Chuchu Jellies, and when struck, they explode. Red Chuchu Jelly is the perfect alternative to the Flint, and can be acquired quickly by striking normal Chuchu Jellies or dropping them in a campfire.
