The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild launched in March of 2017, introducing fans of the series to a brand new open-world experience. In addition, several DLC packs were released known as Master Trials and The Champions’ Ballad. However, these expansion packs also came out in 2017, meaning no official content has been added to the game in years. Fortunately for fans starving for more content, modders have continued to support the title.

Among the mods available for Breath of the Wild, one of the most notable is Second Wind. This mod is a free expansion that includes numerous additions to the base game, such as new quests, weapons, and bosses. In addition, it adds a crafting mechanic, along with making changes to shrines scattered around the map. With over 50 people contributing to the project, it is a big deal for many gamers. Recently, a new update for the mod was released that brought even more exciting content to the open world of Hyrule.

In a new YouTube video posted by Waikuteru, several new features added to the Second Wind mod were detailed. While there was a lot to see, perhaps the most noteworthy feature was an original boss fight. In the video, gamers had the chance to see Link battle the “Octo Boss.” This new fight occurred in the ruins of the Strock Lake location, and as the name suggested, pitted Link against a giant Water Octorok. As a larger version of the Octarok monsters found in water areas, this boss had the same rock projectile attack used by its minions. However, the damage inflicted by this giant Water Octorok was significantly more than normal enemies.

In order to defeat the monster, Link used his shield to deflect the projectiles back at the boss, slowly damaging it. Once defeated, the creature dropped several monster parts and a Chillfin Trout. In addition, this boss fight was connected to the “Labours of the Hero” quest. Once all the steps were completed in the quest, players could earn an indestructible Hylian Shield.

Besides this boss fight, the update to the mod contained a new area to explore in Breath of the Wild. The video showed off the landscape, as Link used his paraglider to explore. While the location near Strock Lake was rather barren, it contained some impressive ruins from a previous settlement.

It’s worth noting that this is an unofficial mod not sanctioned by Nintendo and is only accessible on PC. Nevertheless, this new content is doubtlessly exciting for passionate fans of the series. Hopefully, mods such as Second Wind will make the wait for Breath of the Wild 2 more bearable for fans.
