Breath Of The Wild is a franchise-defining game that continues to amaze, even seven years after its initial release date. With a Metacritic score of 97%, there's very little it can improve on. As the release date for the sequel draws ever closer, fans are busy replaying the game that brought the franchise to life.

The enemy design in Breath Of The Wild is especially noteworthy. With upgraded enemies comes upgraded armor, weapons, and shields. There are so many options that it can be difficult to choose which gear to go with. One of the rarer sets of gear is the Guardian Gear, a set of shields and weapons that can only be acquired in very specific circumstances.

How To Get Guardian Gear In Breath Of The Wild

Guardian Gear in Breath Of The Wild can only be acquired as drops from Guardian Scouts in Test Of Strength shrines, major, modest, or minor. A corrupted form also appears in Divine Beasts. These shrines differ from the usual - there's no puzzle element, just pure combat. The difficulty of the trial depends on whether it's a major or minor test.

Guardian Scouts are smaller versions of Guardian Stalkers specifically designed for these trials. Guardian Gear is dropped by Guardian Scouts after their defeat. These trials can be very difficult in the early game, but in the late game, they're a great way to farm Spirit Orbs, which are needed for upgrading Stamina or Heart Containers.

Tips For Test Of Strength Shrines

Guardian resistance: In the later game, players will have access to Ancient Armor which offers heightened Guardian resistance. Additionally, a circlet with Guardian resistance is available at a Gerudo Town market stall.
Use cooking buffs: Making use of standard cooking buffs can never go wrong. Eat a meal with attack or defense buffs depending on preferred strategy.
Interrupt with an elemental arrow: an ice, electric, fire, or bomb arrow will disrupt the Guardian Scout's laser attack.
Hide behind pillars: Most combat trials have pillars that the player can hide behind to avoid more powerful attacks.
Perfect parry: Timing the perfect parry will deflect the laser attack back at the Guardian Scout, which deals an enormous amount of damage.
Keep moving: Most Guardians, even with their lasers, don't outpace Link's basic running speed. While this means the player can't get a shot in, it's a decent enough strategy for avoiding attacks.

Guardian Scout Variants

Guardian Scouts differ from regular Guardians. Their attack patterns are very different and varied, but they vary based on the level of the Guardian Scout:

Guardian Scout I: These are the weakest Scouts, and they drop no ancient weapons. Their lasers are similar to Guardian Stalkers, but a lot less powerful.
Guardian Scout II: These Guardians have the same lasers and wield one Guardian Weapon. They don't have a chance of dropping shields.

Guardian Scout III: The second most powerful Guardian Scouts, these enemies hold two pieces of Guardian Gear, one potentially being a shield.
Guardian Scout IV: These are the most powerful Guardian Scouts. They have the most health (3000) and carry three pieces of Guardian Gear.
