The temperature gameplay mechanic in Breath of the Wild isn't new to the Zelda franchise, but it is the first time Link can potentially resist the harsh climate. There are different Elixirs that resist cold and heat. However, if BotW players are going to be an extended amount of time in the Hebra or Eldin regions, they'll want to buy armor.

Breath of the Wild players can get a cold-resistant Warm Doublet at the Great Plateau, but it's not going to be enough to ward off the cold from the Hebra and Tabantha Provinces. Thus, players will want to look into getting the Snowquill Set for Link. All the armor pieces are in one place, but the rupee price may be a bit too high for beginners.

Where to Buy Snowquill Set

loz botw rito village

Rito Village is just north of Tabantha Tower, and it's home to the shop that sells the Snowquill Set. Unfortunately, no one is giving away free Snowquill pieces, so look around Rito Village for the Brazen Beak armor store. The prices for the Snowquill Set are as follows:

  • Snowquill Headdress: 1000 rupees
  • Snowquill Tunic: 500 rupees
  • Snowquill Trousers: 550 rupees

If Link's short on rupees, he can either farm and sell gems, or he can buy the cheapest of the three and grab the rest later. Each Snowquill piece has a level 1 resistance to the cold. Unfortunately, a level 1 cold resistance isn't enough to combat the colder areas of the Hebra Province. Players can buy the Snowquill Tunic and Trousers, or they can buy the Snowquill Tunic and equip another cold-resistant accessory, such as the Ruby Circlet. The Ruby Circlet is one of the free reward options for the "Tools of the Trade" sidequest in Gerudo Town.

Upgrading the Snowquill Set

When players manage to get every part of the Snowquill Set, they can get its Set Bonus as long as all pieces are two stars or higher. The Snowquill's bonus will make Link Unfreezable as long as he's wearing the complete set. Armor can be upgraded by the Great Fairies as long as Link has enough materials. For level 2 armor upgrades, Link will need to have "freed" two of the Great Fairies, which costs 600 rupees total.

Most of the materials can be found in the Eldin Province, particularly near Goron City and the Southern Mine. There are plenty of Red Chuchus and Fire Keese at the Southern Mine, and the Red Lizalfos can be found at most of the enemy fortresses in Eldin. Sunshrooms and Warm Safflina can be tracked via the Sheikah Sensor+.

There are Warm Safflinas in the Gerudo Wasteland, particularly near the Fairy Fountain (Great Gerudo Skeleton). Sunshrooms are a bit more common and can even be found in the Gerudo Highlands or even in Retsam Forest, northeast of Hateno Village.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is available now on Nintendo Switch.
