Fire, Ice, and Bomb Arrows aren't new to the Zelda franchise, the latter making their first appearance in Link's Awakening. In Twilight Princess, Bomb Arrows were created by literally combining a bomb and an arrow from the inventory wheel. Since Breath of the Wild uses Remote Bombs, the Bomb Arrows this time around count as their own item.

Elemental Arrows, Ancient Arrows, and Bomb Arrows can be very expensive to those starting a new Breath of the Wild run. However, once players have enough rupees, the arrows - especially Bomb Arrows - are worth the investment. Bomb Arrows are a quick way to blast multiple enemies at once, and their damage is influenced by the type of bow Link has on hand.

How to Obtain Bomb Arrows

Bomb Arrows can be bought from several stores in Hyrule. They can be bought individually or as a bundle. Here's what players are looking at:

Store Location

No. of Bomb Arrows

Cost

Kara Kara Bazaar

  • Bomb Arrow (x1)
  • 50 Rupees

Gerudo Town

  • 20 Bundle of Bomb Arrows (x3)
  • 600 Rupees per Bundle

Rito Village

  • 5 Bundle of Bomb Arrows (x5)
  • 200 Rupees per Bundle

Hateno Village

  • 50 Rupees per Arrow
  • 350 Rupees per Bundle

Tarrey Town

  • 10 Bundle of Bomb Arrows (x5)
  • 350 Rupees per Bundle

Mounted Archery Shop (not raining)

  • Bomb Arrow (x5)
  • 50 Rupees per Arrow

Except for Tarrey Town, all shops will have Bomb Arrows in-stock at any point in BotW. To unlock the Slipper Falcon (Rito Village) branch in Tarrey Town, players will need to pay Bolson 3,000 Rupees for the abandoned house in Hateno Village. Once it's under Link's name, speak to Hudson (the guy with the large hair) until he mentions reconstructing Tarrey Town.

If players are finding their wallets rather empty, they should sell gems to merchants. Those that have freed Vah Rudania can find a Gerudo Merchant named Ramella in Goron City. Speak to her, and she'll want x10 Amber. She'll buy them off of Link for 500 Rupees. After this, she'll request x10 of a random gem. If she requests x10 Diamonds, start farming Luminous Stones and trade x10 of them to Ledo in Zora's Domain for a hunk of Diamond.

Speaking to Hudson on the island in Lake Akkala will unlock a series of quests ("From the Ground Up"). This involves restoring Tarrey Town to its former glory. Eventually, players will need to recruit Fyson from Rito Village. After this, he'll set up shop in Tarrey Town, unlocking a new shop to purchase Bomb Arrows.

Getting Bomb Arrows without Paying

Another way of getting Bomb Arrows is to loot them from chests, such as one of the many in Lomei Labryinth Island. Usually Bomb Arrows will come in x5 bundle. It's a bit of an unreliable way to getting them, but if players need Bomb Arrows and don't have the money, this is one method to fall back on.

Finally, players will receive x20 Bomb Arrows from Teba and Riju at the Flight Range and Lookout Post respectively. However, they will only give Link the Bomb Arrows during the Divine Beast Vah Medoh and Divine Beast Vah Naboris main quests. Afterward, he'll need to buy his own.

How to Use Bomb Arrows

Bomb Arrows can be equipped from the Inventory screen. While in combat, players can "fast switch" to Bomb Arrows by holding down R-button to draw their bow. Tap left or right on the directional pad to select an arrow. Bomb Arrows are usually placed at the end (before Ancient Arrows), so keep scrolling right until box is highlighted.

Since Bomb Arrows have a fuse, Link won't want to draw the arrow for too long. Doing so will cause it to explode in his face. Another thing players will want to avoid is using Bomb Arrows in the Eldin region. Drawing a Bomb Arrow in regions that set everything on fire will immediately cause the Bomb Arrow to blow up.

Bomb Arrows cannot be used in the rain . If Link fires a Bomb Arrow while it's raining, the rain will douse the fuse and the Bomb Arrow will do as much damage as a regular arrow .

Bomb Arrows are great when attacking enemy camps or when fighting Stone Taluses. There are also some Shrines hiding behind rock walls that can only be destroyed with a bomb. These walls may be too high up for Link to reach with a remote bomb; this is where Bomb Arrows come in handy.

One way to use Bomb Arrows is to use Stasis on a target, then hit it with a Bomb Arrow to charge up the kinetic energy. Unfreeze the target with Stasis (or wait it out) to send it flying. This can be useful when completing Trials such as the ones in the Shae Loya Shrine.
