Yesterday, Nintendo gave fans another long-awaited look at The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2. While details are still rather sparse, fans were happy to learn that the game is aiming for a 2022 release. The Breath of the Wild sequel's new trailer didn't disappoint either, showing that players will now be able to venture as Link up into the skies of Hyrule, in addition to the Hyrule itself on the ground below.

The game's initial 2019 reveal trailer cemented that it would be somewhat of a darker take on the Zelda series, from the ominous appearances of what seems to be a mummified Ganon, to the overwhelming presence of a mysterious, black and red energy. Since the game's reveal, it has been compared to Majora's Mask for its darker tone, and now, Nintendo has officially commented on these comparisons.

During an interview with IGN, Nintendo Treehouse's Bill Trinen explained that while he can certainly understand why people might compare the sequel to Breath of the Wild to Majora's Mask, especially with both games being direct sequels, Breath of the Wild 2 is very much its own game. As more details are revealed about the sequel, "it’ll probably start to be a bit more apparent where this game stands on its own and what makes it so unique," Trinen says.

Trinen assured fans that in addition to Link's new Sheikah Slate-like arm and flamethrower-like shield attachment, there is much to be revealed. The long-time Nintendo of America employee also explained that the sequel will build greatly upon the original game. It may be worth mentioning that when speaking on what is yet to be revealed about the sequel to Breath of the Wild, Trinen mentioned that such details would be shown within the coming months to the next year, so fans may not have to wait long for more updates on the title.

Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma has even gone on record addressing comparisons between Breath of the Wild 2 and The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask himself, saying that while the upcoming game's initial reveal may have been darker than Majora's Mask, the Breath of the Wild sequel isn't necessarily inspired by or related to it. Regardless, fans have responded with overwhelming positivity to Nintendo's newest E3 trailer for Breath of the Wild 2.

For the time being, debate on Breath of the Wild 2's official title rages on, with Nintendo's Bill Trinen also revealing that it is being kept secret for a good reason. Aside from the sequel to Breath of the WildZelda fans can look forward to the release of Skyward Sword HD next month, as well as a new limited-edition Zelda-themed Game and Watch packed with 3 classic games in the series.
