Knowing the popularity of The Boys, it's no surprise that Amazon has lined up spin-off series capable of exploring more parts of the story's twisted world of corrupt heroes. Now, Amazon has released a new teaser for the animated series Diabolical, a companion series to The Boys that releases this March.

The official third season of The Boys will be released this June, with the latest chapter featuring many new characters from the comic series including Soldier Boy, Crimson Countess, and Supersonic. Meanwhile, Amazon has made big investments in the medium of animation. The streamer made headlines when it purchased exclusive streaming rights to big animated titles such as Evangelion 3.0 + 1.0: Thrice Upon a Time and Hotel Transylvania 4: Transformania, and they have continued to produce a slew of fascinating animated series including the hit superhero series Invincible.

The brief teaser for Diabolical showcases its hand drawn animation as well as its R-rated violence. The animated The Boys spin-off has drawn many comparisons to the animation style of 1990s cartoon series The Animaniacs. The series has many big comedians credited as writers on the series including Awkwafina, Ilana Glazer, Andy Samberg, and Seth Rogen, though whether they will appear as voice actors in the show has yet to be confirmed.

Diabolical is the next in a long line of established franchises getting animated spin-offs as of late. Warner Bros. plans to release DC's League of Super-Pets in theaters this summer, while a Lord of the Rings anime feature film subtitled The War of the Rohirrim is also in the works. Other recent spin-offs series of film or television franchises include Netflix's Fast & Furious Spy Racers and Star Trek: Lower Decks. The upcoming animated spin-off receiving an overwhelming amount of buzz at this time is Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, which releases this October.

The Boys has become one of Amazon Prime's killer apps in impressively swift fashion, utilizing its biting satirical deconstruction of superhero tropes to captivate its audiences. Diabolical looks to be the perfect show for fans of The Boys as they wait for the main series' highly-anticipated third season. With a hand drawn animation style that pays homage to The Animaniacs as well as the over-the-top violence fans have come to expect from the main series, Diabolical may certainly have what it takes to draw in old fans as well as new ones.

Diabolical streams on Amazon Prime on March 4th, 2022.
