Harry Bosch has some brand-new cases to solve in his new role as a private investigator in Bosch: Legacy, but he also has some unfinished business to deal with from his time in the LAPD. One of those things was the issue surrounding the hedge fund crook, Carl Rogers, who tried to murder Honey Chandler and his Bosch's daughter, Maddie Bosch. He nearly succeeded in killing Chandler, but she survived and has become a co-lead in the new spin-off series, joining forces with Bosch to investigate new cases, while also trying to seek retribution against Carl Rogers.

Carl Rogers hired the hitman who shot and nearly killed Honey Chandler in the final season of the original Bosch series. Max E. Williams played Carl Rogers in season 7 of Bosch, and the character was a hedge fund millionaire who was involved in an insider trading racket that Chandler was using to keep a client of hers out of prison.

Maddie was in attendance for the client's confession, but this led to Chandler and Maddie ending up as targets. Honey Chandler was attacked in her house by the hitman hired by Rogers. She awakes from her ordeal to find Maddie at her side after surviving the assassination attempt.

Carl Rogers is arrested just before he can fly out of town on a private jet. This plot thread is continued when Bosch: Legacy begins, with Honey Chandler still suffering from the after effects of her near death, and Carl Rogers on trial for his crimes. Chandler attends the trial, but to her shock and disbelief, it ends in a mistrial and Rogers is released.

What happens to Carl Rogers in Bosch Legacy?

Upon his release in Bosch: Legacy season 1, Carl Rogers (now played by Michael Rose) gets involved with the Russian mafia, which proves to be his ultimate downfall. Bosch finds out Rogers is plotting to steal gas, but the ex LAPD detective makes a plan to detonate the pipeline before Rogers can get hold of the gas. Bosch blows up the pipeline before any gas is stolen, which results in Chandler offering Rogers a deal to turn himself in for everything he's done in exchange for protection from the Russians.

However, Rogers makes an attempt to escape to Vietnam using a shipping container, but Bosch and Chandler manage to track him down to the location. Chandler watches on as Rogers enters the container where he is met by the Ivanovich crime family, and meets with a grisly end. He is shot four times before they leave and Chandler opens the door to look inside the container and sees Rogers' dead body sprawled on the floor. She appears unbothered by the gruesome sight, and closes the door and leaves.

Carl Rogers' twisted legacy in the Bosch universe didn't end with his death, as Bosch: Legacy season 2 deals with the aftermath of his murder by the Russians and the implication of Bosch and Chandler in his death.

The FBI comes to speak to Honey Chandler, and the agents suggest she was involved in Carl Rogers’ and his financial advisor, Simon Wakefield's murder. They reveal they know her and Bosch were both in close proximity to the shipping container that had Rogers' dead body in it. Chandler says she has nothing to tell them, and the agents tell her she may be called to the grand jury. Chandler informs Bosch that he's also under investigation, and suggests to cover for the time they are spending with each other talking about what the FBI have on them, she should hire him to be an investigator on the Lexi Parks murder case.

The same FBI agents who visited Chandler, end up serving Bosch with a subpoena for him to appear before the grand jury. Agent William Barron is the head of the investigation into Bosch and Chandler, and he also plans to investigate Crate and Barrel for their involvement in the pipeline explosion as well.

As the FBI investigation continues, they find the schematics for the shipping container and tie both Bosch and Chandler to the port on the day of Rogers' murder. They don’t have proof of Bosch blowing up the pipeline, but they do find surveillance footage of Simon Wakefield’s home on the day he was found dead. They see footage of Honey leaving Wakefield’s home, proving she didn’t report his murder and this links to how she got hold of the schematics for the shipping container.

Chandler appears to shred all the documents in the Rogers case, and hands them to her colleague, Matthew, to get rid of. Turns out, Matthew is working with the FBI agents on the case, and hands over the shredded documents to them. However, this is all part of Chandler's plan to entrap the FBI.

To make matters worse, the FBI meet with the owner of the pipeline, who IDs Harry Bosch as being the man who blew it up.

The FBI get search warrants and raid Bosch's apartment and Chandler’s office at the same time. The FBI don't find much of interest, apart from a recording of Chandler threatening Carl Rogers, which makes them think she knew about the explosion before it happened. They turn up at Chandler’s house and arrest her.

However, her boss, Martin Rose, bails her out, and she gives a statement to the press where she claims the FBI are attempting to destroy her reputation, and calls their investigation baseless. Chandler attends a hearing to dismiss the FBI case against her, with Bosch alongside her. The FBI comes in with the bag of shredded documents relating to the Rogers case. Chandler reveals it was a big set-up, and she gave the real files to her lawyer, meaning the FBI essentially have a bag of scrap paper. This means the search warrant based on their suspicions that Chandler destroyed evidence is null and void, and the evidence they found is inadmissible. The judge dismisses the case, but Baron tells Chandler he isn't done with the case yet.

Baron's plan B to get Bosch and Chandler for their involvement in Rogers' murder involves trying to blackmail their tech associate, Maurice 'Mo' Bassi into giving evidence against them. The aftermath of Carl Rogers' murder is destined to carry over into the much anticipated Bosch: Legacy season 3.
