  • The future of Jerry Edgar's spin-off remains uncertain as the show's progress is quiet.

Bosch: Legacy season 3 will introduce the character of Renee Ballard as a backdoor pilot to her own spin-off series, which is currently in production. The spin-off was announced by Amazon back in early 2023 alongside a Jerry Edgar-centered series starring Jamie Hector. In contrast to the Renee Ballard series, news has gone quiet on the progress of the spin-off show featuring Harry Bosch's ex-partner in the LAPD.

The untitled Jerry Edgar series is set to follow the detective as he embarks on an undercover mission for the FBI in Little Haiti, Miami. Michael Connelly, who wrote the Bosch and Renee Ballard books, will be an executive producer on the show alongside Larry Andries, Henry Bastin and Melissa Aouate. There is a possibility Jerry Edgar might make an appearance in Bosch: Legacy season 3 after making guest appearances in the previous two series, but it's unclear when his spin-off series will go into production.

Renee Ballard will make an appearance in Bosch: Legacy season 3 ahead of taking the lead in her own spin off show.

What happened to Jerry Edgar in Bosch and Bosch: Legacy?

Jerry Edgar was an up-and-coming detective in the Hollywood Homicide Division during Bosch season 1 and Harry Bosch's partner. The pair were involved in many investigations over the years, but Edgar's most memorable storyline involved his shooting of Haitian drug kingpin Jacques Avril in season 6. The whole situation nearly derailed his career, but Bosch covered for him, and the pair recovered from their disagreements and remained tight as partners and friends for the rest of the show's run.

At the end of Bosch season 7, the Hollywood Homicide division was disbanded, and everybody went their separate ways. Harry Bosch left the LAPD altogether to set up as a private investigator, which formed the basis of the spin-off series Bosch: Legacy, while Jerry Edgar ended up making a huge career step by joining the RHD.

Jamie Hector reprises the role of Jerry Edgar in episode 6 of Bosch: Legacy season 1, titled "Chain of Authenticity." Bosch is waiting near one of the main roads into the main city when a car pulls up next to him, and Jerry Edgar gets out. The former partners share a brief catch-up before Bosch gives Jerry an envelope containing Whitney Vance’s will to place into evidence to keep it under lock and key.

Bosch Legacy - What Happened To Lexi Parks?

Bosch: Legacy season 2 focused on the investigation into the murder of Lexi Parks, with Bosch and Chandler on the case.

The next time Jerry Edgar turns up is in the first two episodes of Bosch: Legacy season 2, as he helps Harry Bosch track down Maddie after she is kidnapped by Kurt Dockweiler. The audience gets to see Jerry operating in his new role in the RHD, investigating the crime and allowing Bosch to gain access to Kurt Dockweiler to interrogate him over Maddie's disappearance. The last time Jerry Edgar was seen in the Bosch universe was at the end of episode 2 of Bosch: Legacy season 2 after Maddie had been found safe.

Jamie Hector played Jerry Edgar in all 68 episodes of Bosch and has returned as a guest star in three episodes of Bosch: Legacy thus far, so it's highly likely he will appear in a guest role again in Bosch: Legacy season 3 ahead of the spin-off series centered on his character during an FBI undercover operation. But will Bosch: Legacy season 3 set up Jerry Edgar's own spin-off show?

The Bosch universe is expanding, and it has been confirmed that Maggie Q will appear as Renee Ballard in a Bosch: Legacy season 3 crossover ahead of her own spin-off show, so it might be too much for the upcoming season to also set up the Jerry Edgar spin-off as well. Having said that, an appearance by Jerry Edgar in season 3 could keep his character in the audiences' minds while his own show continues to be developed over at Amazon.

Season 1 of the Renee Ballard spin-off show has been confirmed to link up with Bosch: Legacy season 3, with both shows based on the same book by Michael Connelly: Desert Star. However, the Jerry Edgar spin-off is not based on any of Connelly's books and is set to be very much its own thing, with no plans for the story to crossover with Bosch: Legacy.

The Jerry Edgar spin-off series will leave the city of Los Angeles and head to Little Haiti, Miami, but despite no plans to crossover with the events of Bosch: Legacy season 3, if Jerry Edgar does make an appearance, there might be an opportunity to hint at what might be in store for Bosch's ex-partner in his own series. It might also provide the opportunity to set up new characters who might appear alongside Jerry Edgar in the spin-off series.

There haven't been any updates on what's happening with the Jerry Edgar spin-off since it was announced alongside the Renee Ballard series in early 2023, but it appears to still be in the planning stages of development.
