Boruto is currently one of the most interesting manga out there with the last few chapters of the story absolutely knocking it out of the park. The story has now progressed towards its timeskip, meaning the climax is near. Boruto has been thoroughly enjoyable for the fans and although it hasn't lived up to the expectations of Naruto, it is still a joy for fans to read, both old and new.

Currently, in Boruto, the world of shinobi, especially Konoha, is reeling. This is because the 7th Hokage has officially been declared dead. In reality, Naruto Uzumaki is not dead but sealed away in a different dimension by Kawaki. However, after Eida rewrote history, it has now been made known to the world that Naruto Uzumaki was killed by Boruto and, thus, the need for the 8th Hokage has arisen.

What Happened To The Seventh Hokage?

The 7th Hokage, Naruto Uzumaki was one of the strongest people alive in the world at the beginning of Boruto. However, the author saw it fit to nerf him severely. When faced with the threat of Isshiki, Naruto ended up tapping into the power of Baryon Mode and this burned away his Tailed Beast powers in exchange for a greater power that allowed him to combat the godly Otsutsuki. Following the loss of Kurama, Naruto was no longer the same powerhouse that he once was. Kawaki, who loves him dearly, realized this and decided that he would protect Naruto by himself.

To do this, Kawaki became determined to root out and kill all the Otsutsuki in the world. However, there was a complication. Boruto Uzumaki, Naruto's son, and Kawaki's brother, is one of the Otsutsuki. In fact, he is the vessel for Momoshiki Otsutsuki and will eventually be taken over by him. Kawaki realizes this and, knowing that Momoshiki is the biggest threat to Naruto, he wants to eradicate Boruto. He made his plans known to the Hokage and naturally, Naruto argued against it. To prevent Naruto from getting in the way, Kawaki ended up sealing him away in the dimension of Daikokuten.

Shortly afterwards, Boruto and Kawaki faced off and when the latter was being chased out of the village, it was Eida who turned to help him. Making use of her Shinjutsu power called Omnipotence, she was able to rewrite history itself and alter the memories of everyone. Eida made it so that Boruto Uzumaki took the place of Kawaki and was recognized all over the world as the orphan who was taken in by Naruto yet went on to backstab him. Meanwhile, Kawaki went on to be remembered as the son of Naruto Uzumaki and his name became Kawaki Uzumaki. Boruto, on the other hand, was branded as the killer of the 7th Hokage. Now, to the rest of the world, the 7th Hokage is officially dead.

The Candidates For The 8th Hokage

Sasuke Uchiha (1)

Naruto Uzumaki has now been taken out of the picture and this means that the room is open for someone to take the position of Hokage. While many would think that Naruto will return soon and resume his duties as the 7th Hokage, it must be remembered that a timeskip is soon to follow. After the timeskip, Boruto Uzumaki is 16, meaning this timeskip lasts for about 4 years. For these 4 years, Konoha cannot stay without a Hokage and thus, appointing the 8th Hokage is a given.

This means someone is going to step up and take this position for themselves and there are quite a few candidates who would come to mind. Sakura Haruno is one character who every fan knows would make a great Hokage. Just like her mentor, Tsunade, she would go on to become a wise and calculating Hokage, despite not being the strongest. This role would be fitting for someone as kind, compassionate, and powerful as her.

Shikamaru is another character who comes to mind, however, he is better suited to the role of an advisor than he is to the position of Kage. Undoubtedly, the best candidate for the position of Hokage is none other than Sasuke Uchiha. Sasuke, as fans know, is just as strong as Naruto and, more importantly, even smarter than him. Sasuke understands how things are supposed to be and the village needs someone as strong as him at its helm right now. Fans would also remember that Sasuke wanted to be the Hokage towards the end of the Naruto series.

Now that Naruto has been declared dead, it is time for him to step up and make this position his own. Sasuke would then lead the village into the war against Code and the other Otsutsuki who will follow. The only way Sasuke would not end up becoming the Hokage is if he is killed off by the author, which is unlikely. It is also possible that Sasuke rejects the position, however, seeing that the village is in dire need of leadership right now in the midst of war, he cannot afford to do so.
