Boruto Uzumaki is the protagonist of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. When it comes to being blessed as a young ninja, Boruto is right up there at the top of the list. He was born as the son of the Seventh Hokage and, thus, possessed quite a lot of potential right from the get-go. If that wasn't enough, Boruto was later mentored by none other than the biggest rival of the 7th Hokage, Sasuke Uchiha. Under his tutelage, Boruto grew even stronger and any student of Sasuke would be a force to be reckoned with, undoubtedly.

With the incredible people in his life, it is no surprise that Boruto ended up becoming a powerful Shinobi. However, these people aren't necessarily always going to be in the life of Boruto Uzumaki. For one, the Seventh Hokage, Naruto Uzumaki, has been stripped away from him and sealed in a different dimension by his brother and, now, Sasuke Uchiha faces a similar fate.

The Prologue Of Boruto

The very first chapter of Boruto opened with a prologue where tons of clues about the future of the story were hidden. The prologue gave the fans quite a bit of insight about what they were in for in the story and, at the same time, kept some other things a mystery as well. As such, the prologue carries tremendous significance in Boruto. The most important thing that the prologue brought to the attention of the fans was the fate of the 7th Hokage. Kawaki implies that Naruto Uzumaki is either dead or severely incapacitated. Recently, in Boruto, it was revealed that Naruto was sealed away in a different dimension. The prologue also goes on to reveal that the age of Shinobi is finally over. It is then implied that Boruto Uzumaki is the last standing shinobi as he is preparing to fight Kawaki atop the Hokage faces 4 years into the future.

Another very important thing that the prologue doesn't explicitly state but hints at subtly was the fate of Sasuke Uchiha. Boruto Uzumaki is seen wearing Sasuke's clothes in the prologue. He wears the famous cape that Sasuke has been wearing ever since the beginning of the Boruto series, his headband, and also carries his famous Kusanagi Sword. This raises the interesting question of what happened to Sasuke Uchiha during the timeskip.

Sasuke Right Now

Sasuke Uchiha (1)

Sasuke Uchiha has been central to quite a lot of arcs in Boruto. Since the very beginning of the story, Sasuke has been crucial when it comes to defending the village and fighting against the members of the Otsutsuki Clan. He fought against Momoshiki Otsutsuki alongside Naruto and, later on, he also fought against Isshiki. While Sasuke was not able to demonstrate his full power due to plot convenience, he was later nerfed even more, just as Naruto was. While Naruto had his Tailed Beast, Kurama, stripped away from him, Sasuke instead had his Rinnegan stabbed by Boruto Uzumaki, who was possessed by Momoshiki at the moment.

With the Rinnegan gone, Sasuke was weakened considerably. Ever since then, Sasuke has played small roles in the series here and there, however, he has not been focused on as much. That said, there are moments of introspection with Sasuke where he states that he will have to show his resolve very soon. This could be foreshadowing a major event coming up in the story where Sasuke will have to fight to the death. Currently, Boruto is hurtling towards its timeskip and Sasuke is alive and well, however, there is still time until the timeskip actually begins so fans do not know exactly what happens to Sasuke.

How Boruto Gets Sasuke's Clothes

Boruto Uzumaki is clearly seen wearing Sasuke's attire after the timeskip. The headband is very easy to explain as Sasuke himself gave it to Boruto. This implies that during the timeskip, Boruto could go on to train with Sasuke and attain new clothes. This would be similar to how Naruto got his new outfit during his training with Jiraiya. Naruto ruined his old clothes and Jiraiya got him new ones to replace them, and also to symbolize his growth. If Boruto ends up training with Sasuke, it is entirely possible for him to don the cloak of his master. The question of why Boruto is carrying the Kusanagi Sword still remains, however. As far as fans know, there is only one sword that Sasuke currently has in his possession.

The fact that Boruto is carrying it means that Sasuke is no longer in fighting shape. This means that he is severely incapacitated or dead in the future. At the very least, that is what the author wants the fans to think. The truth of the situation, however, is not known just yet. It could also be possible that Sasuke ends up creating a replica sword and it giving it to Boruto to signify that he is his dearest pupil. This would parallel Orochimaru possessing a version of the Kusanagi Sword and Sasuke possessing another version of the sword with the same name. However, much of it is shrouded in mystery at the moment. What fans can assume at the moment is that Sasuke is not going to be safe in the future of Boruto and will face a fate similar to that of Naruto Uzumaki, if not worse.
