Naruto's sequel, Boruto has proven to be a decent follow-up to the original series and has delivered some quality plotlines as well as intriguing characters over the years. The protagonist of the story is Boruto Uzumaki, Naruto's son, and at his side are the likes of Sarada Uchiha, and of course, Mitsuki.

The latter, in particular, is quite a mysterious character. Fans know him to be Orochimaru's son and, as a member of Team 7, he has played quite an intriguing role in the story of Boruto so far. Now that the timeskip of Boruto is over and the story is well in its Part 2, fans expect a lot from the character of Mitsuki, who has loads of potential to fulfill.

Mitsuki's Power Before The Timeskip

Mitsuki is one of the most interesting characters in Boruto and certainly among the strongest as well. He was introduced to the fans at the very beginning of the story where it was revealed that he is a synthetic human created by none other than the genius scientist, Orochimaru. Mitsuki was created by Orochimaru's own cells and he was granted immense powers. According to Orochimaru himself, Mitsuki has the potential to surpass the Legendary Sannin, which is a sign of greatness. It also means that he has bucketloads of potential to fulfill and that he can get very stronger than fans ever saw the members of the Sannin to be.

While glimpses of Mitsuki's powers were provided to the fans in the first part of the story, he was not heavily focused on at all. In fact, Mitsuki did not play a major role in any fight, apart from when he fought against Boro with the rest of the Team 7. Before that, in the Chunin Exams, Mitsuki did well, however, once again, wasn't the center of attention. Throughout the 80 chapters of Boruto, Mitsuki's character has been largely underdeveloped. While there is a lot of depth to his character, it is largely unexplored, especially in the manga. This only means that the character of Mitsuki has a lot of room still to grow and that the writers will have to step it up with him in Part 2 of the story.

Mitsuki During The Timeskip

Mitsuki only played a small role towards the end of Part 1 of Boruto. When Boruto and Kawaki were fighting on the Hokage faces, Mitsuki also made an appearance and managed to reach them just in time to protect Boruto Uzumaki, whom he holds very close to his heart. After saving Boruto, Mitsuki turned his rage towards Kawaki, who, at the time, was trying to escape from the village. Soon after, Ada came to his aid and ended up using the power of Omnipotence to bring Kawaki's true feelings to life. Boruto and Kawaki ended up switching lives and the latter was branded as the killer of the 7th Hokage, which turned him into a villain in almost everyone's eyes.

The timeskip was incredibly interesting for the character of Mitsuki as well. Fans know that Mitsuki holds Boruto in great regard and considers him to be his sun. However, after Omnipotence, Mitsuki's memories were altered as well. Now, he believed Kawaki to be his sun, and he had nothing but rage for Boruto Uzumaki, because, according to him, Boruto was the one who killed the 7th Hokage and, at the same time, tried killing Kawaki. This has completely flipped Mitsuki's character and it will be interesting to see how his character shapes up in the second part of the series. Fans already got a glimpse of Mitsuki in Boruto part 2 chapter 1 and it is safe to say that he has grown quite a lot. He looks exactly like his brother, Log, and that only means that his strength will also have grown to quite some degree.

Mitsuki After The Timeskip

After the timeskip of Boruto, Mitsuki will most likely be much stronger than ever before. For one, during this time, Mitsuki will have gained a tremendous amount of control over his chakra. His other abilities that he was blessed with will also have developed to the highest level.

Above all, Mitsuki's trump card, called Sage Transformation, which allows him to access natural energy around himself at all times without even having to enter Sage Mode, would be developed to the next level as well. This power is his strongest ability and, while fans barely ever got to see him make use of it in Boruto Part 1, it will be his go-to technique in Boruto Part 2. Fans will most definitely see him make use of this power more often and that is certainly exciting for everyone to see.

When taking into consideration his skillset as well as the powers that he must have mastered over the timeskip, it wouldn't be a stretch to say that Mitsuki would already be on the same level as the likes of the Sannin and potentially even beyond that. This is especially true because the likes of Boruto Uzumaki and Kawaki have already reached the levels of the Otsutsuki. For Mitsuki to be relevant, he must rise to the same levels. In fact, even Sarada has awakened her Mangekyo Sharingan and will have ascended to the next level. Mitsuki needs something similar and perhaps, his Sage Mode, when fully mastered, puts him above the average level of a Kage.

Mitsuki's Role In Boruto Part 2

Given the level of strength that he must possess right now, it goes without saying that Mitsuki is going to be extremely important in Boruto Part 2. For one, his relation to Boruto Uzumaki is extremely interesting to observe right now. Boruto is his arch-enemy at the moment and Mitsuki will go to any length to exact revenge on him. This means fans will get to witness a battle between friends at any time in the story now. It will also be interesting to see how his relationship develops with Kawaki. From what fans could see in the first chapter, Kawaki is quite cold to him and this makes Mitsuki reassure himself that Kawaki is his sun. However, the fact that he needed reassurance in itself means that he is, on some level, having doubts. This opens up interesting doors for his character to be explored and fans are sure to be excited about that.

Moreover, at some point, Mitsuki will find out the truth of the situation, and that itself means that his rage might turn towards Kawaki at the end. Furthermore, with the likes of Code, among others, infiltrating Konoha, Mitsuki will be very busy, given that he is one of the strongest ninjas around at the moment. Fans will most likely see much more of him in combat than they did in Boruto Part 1 and that is something that excites everyone. Mitsuki is a brilliant character and he deserves attention and, hopefully, fans will get to enjoy that in Boruto Part 2. Eventually, his character must go on to surpass Orochimaru and reach heights that his parent figure failed to achieve in the original story. What conclusion his character ends up reaching in the end is something that only the authors can answer. For now, there is a lot for the fans to be excited about.

Boruto is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus app. The release date for the next chapter of Boruto, Boruto Part 2 chapter 2, is set to be September 20, 2023.
