Boruto: Two Blue Vortex has touched upon some of the most exciting plot points in the series as of late, and quite easily, the most interesting one in the new series ever since its beginning has been the return of the beloved Tailed Beasts, Kurama. Fans knew that at some point, Ikemoto would have to touch upon the subject of this Tailed Beast and that it was absolutely needed in the future as well.

Thankfully, they delivered upon that end as Kurama successfully returned through Himawari Uzumaki. However, fans know that Kurama was the primary source of Naruto's power, and as such, many are wondering what exactly will happen when the 7th Hokage does return.

Both Naruto and Kurama had big death flags over them in the Boruto series. Ever since the Otsutsuki were introduced and the enemies kept getting stronger, fans knew that Naruto and Sasuke would keep struggling to deal with them. Of course, the idea that the author wanted to go with was to set up the Next Generation to surpass the previous one and take down the enemies that mean the world harm. However, fans would have loved it if the old generation would have helped out in this as well. Just as Naruto helped out in taking down Momoshiki, fans wanted him to be present in future storylines as well, even if it meant that he was to deal with individuals other than the main villains.

This is largely down to the fact that Naruto is a beloved character and that even in the Boruto series, he is the most popular character and the primary reason why many are still entertaining the series. Sadly, the author had different plans for him. Naruto and Sasuke kept getting disrespected in the sequel series, and eventually, Naruto was stripped of his powers. This happened in the fight against Isshiki, where, although he received a big power-up in the form of Baryon Mode, the power-up was such that resulted in the death of his Tailed Beast and primary source of energy, Kurama. With the loss of Kurama, Naruto was much weaker, so much so that now he needed protection against the strong enemies that existed in the world.
Kurama's death left a big hole in Naruto's life. Not only did he lose his source of power, but at the same time, he lost his partner. Kurama was with Naruto for the longest. From the moment that he was born, these two spent all their time together and even though Kurama spent a significant portion of their life hating Naruto, eventually, he grew to love and respect him and opened his heart to him. This is a bond that fans deeply cherished, however, it no longer exists in the series.
What's worse, Naruto was sealed by Kawaki, and this was because he deemed him unfit to protect himself against the likes of the Otsutsuki. In Kawaki's mind, he was doing Naruto a big favor until he erased all those who would do him harm, that is, the Otsutsuki.

Kurama Had Finally Been Reborn Inside Naruto's Daughter
In Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, fans finally saw the return of Kurama. This came as a shock to many readers and characters within the story alike. When the Shinju started to seek out what their instincts told them, Jura, the one who appeared to be their leader, wanted to consume Naruto Uzumaki. He went out in search of Naruto and eventually reached Konoha. There, the trail led him to none other than Himawari Uzumaki. Essentially, he was tracing down the chakra of the Nine-Tails, and instead of Naruto, he was led to Himawari, who holds the power of the Nine-Tails.
But until that day comes, you be well, Naruto!
More recently, it was confirmed in the Boruto series that after Kurama died, he reincarnated in the ninja world. Reincarnation is apparently random and can happen at any point and any place. Through a twist of fate, this reincarnation did not actually go down as it was supposed to.
Instead of the Tailed Beast being freed due to its death, Kurama was actually reborn inside of Himawari. This doesn't make much sense, but at this point, fans would simply have to accept it for what it is. Now, it has been confirmed that the baby version of Kurama is inside of Himawari and that she is now its official host.

Many fans had hoped for Naruto Uzumaki to regain access to Kurama at some point in the future if the beast were to return. With Kurama's rebirth inside of Himawari, it is essentially impossible for him to do that. While this is great for Himawari, given that she requires screen time and now has an incredible source of power that she can bond with and create good character progression, it means the opposite for Naruto Uzumaki, and he does eventually return to the Boruto series.

Naruto's Future In Boruto Just Got Darker With Kurama's Return
Even if Naruto is not present in the main story right now, he will have to return at some point. Naruto cannot stay sealed away forever, and when Boruto and Kawaki settle things, he is going to return. At this point, Naruto will have to be somewhat relevant in terms of power. It would be absolutely ridiculous for the 7th Hokage to be nowhere close to the levels of the other shinobi in the village.
Naruto has to maintain a standard, and even aside from that, fans know for a fact that he is a beloved character who has to be in the conversation for the most important characters in the franchise at all times. Now, Kurama cannot give power to Naruto anymore, which means that he will have to seek out a new source. The authors will make a very big mistake if they leave Naruto as weak as he is and don't progress him any further.
The best way to go about this would be to have Naruto train and get much stronger on his own. Alternatively, Naruto Uzumaki can potentially gain another source of power which would help him compete at the highest level in the future of the series. Fans would love for that to happen, as it would ensure that the face of the entire franchise gets the treatment that he deserves.
That said, right now, nothing can be said about the intentions of the authors. Fans can only hope that the creator of the series remembers the importance of Naruto Uzumaki, and utilizes that importance in the right ways not only to preserve the legacy of Naruto Uzumaki, but also to boost the popularity of the series even further.
