The story of Boruto is now heading towards the first time skip at a very fast rate. This means Boruto Uzumaki and everyone in his generation of ninja will now train to grow stronger, as is the case with the vast majority of timeskips in anime and manga. However, shortly before that, something incredible happened in the manga. Boruto chapter 79 saw the lives of Boruto and Kawaki flip on their heads as they exchanged roles completely.

Kawaki's Attack On Boruto

Shortly before Boruto and Kawaki exchanged roles, it was Kawaki who clashed with Boruto atop the Hokage faces. While Boruto was not trying to fight Kawaki, the latter was fully adamant about killing him. What's more, he also attempted to kill Sarada when she stepped in his spot and this led to Boruto getting blinded after he tried to save his comrade. Moments later, Kawaki was surrounded by the Shinobi of Konoha and when he thought he was done, Momoshiki awakened and gave him an opportunity to escape. Using the powers of Sukunahikona, Kawaki shrunk himself down to microscopic sizes and tried to escape from the village.

His attempt would have been successful had he not run out of chakra quickly. He had to restore himself back to his regular size, which allowed all the shinobi of Konoha to find the traces of his chakra and drag him down. Once again, Kawaki looked to be in a pickle and would have been caught had it not been for a person who loves him dearly – Eida. Eida was in confinement, honoring her agreement with Konoha, when she realized that Kawaki was in trouble. Her Senrigan allows her to see everything that is going on anywhere in the world and that is how she found out that Kawaki was in desperate need of help. Immediately, she flew off to him and paved way for his escape once again.

Eida Steps In

As soon as Eida stepped in, Kawaki panicked, not knowing what to expect. However, Eida made it clear to him that she was an ally. Despite that, he wanted to keep his distance from her as being near her would give away his location. Eida had other ideas in her head and using the godly powers that she possessed, thanks to the remains of Shibai Otsutsuki, she was able to pull off something truly majestic. Eida used the power of gods to alter and rewrite history altogether. She made it so that the entire world of Naruto now recognized Kawaki as the trueborn son of Naruto Uzumaki. His name now became Kawaki Uzumaki.

Meanwhile, Boruto ended up taking the place of Kawaki and became the rogue who killed the Seventh Hokage. He was remembered as being taken in by the Hokage when no one else did and he repaid him with treachery. Essentially, Eida made it so that Boruto and Kawaki switched lives permanently in the minds of everyone in the world. Momoshiki went on to explain that this is a godly ability, also known as Shinjutsu, and that the Otsutsuki have rewritten the memories of humans several times over the course of history. Now, Boruto has lost everything that he held dear once while Kawaki is who everyone recognizes as the talented son of the Seventh Hokage.

The New Lives Of Boruto And Kawaki

Boruto uzumaki chapter 79 boruto

Boruto and Kawaki will now be leading new lives entirely from here onwards in the story. Boruto has been shunned by everyone who is his ally and friend, except for Sarada, and potentially Sasuke. From here onwards, he is deemed as a threat to the village and would need to be exterminated, now that it has been confirmed to everyone that Naruto Uzumaki, their Hokage, was killed by him. As such, the best option for Boruto is to escape from the village. Boruto will now try to find a path out of the village and head to safety. However, he has no place to go and no friends to protect him.

At the same time, Kawaki will now take the place of Boruto as everyone's beloved child. He will take on the position of a regular shinobi under the new Hokage, whoever is appointed, and attempt to aid the village, living the life that he always wanted. Kawaki will work towards his goal of rooting out all the Otsutsuki clan members one by one and killing them. Both Boruto and Kawaki will try to get stronger as the timeskip is now fast approaching. Boruto will likely do this out of the village at some place while Kawaki will likely train within the village somehow. All things considered, Boruto is now becoming more intense than ever before and the story will soon enter a 4-year timeskip, after which Boruto and Kawaki will come face to face once again and fight one last time atop the Hokage faces.
