Kurama has been an incredibly important part of Naruto's journey ever since he set out on his dream to become the Hokage. Although he started as an antagonist, given that he wanted to take over Naruto's body and even get rid of him to break free, Kurama ended up becoming a fan favorite.

In the Fourth Great Ninja War, Kurama formed a special bond with Naruto Uzumaki and became an official part of the village of Konoha. With Kurama at his side, Naruto became a force to be reckoned with, and not even the Otsutsuki could defeat him easily. Sadly, Kurama ended up dying in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, and his loss is still felt by the fans to this day.

Kurama's Death

Kurama played a huge role in Boruto as he was always by Naruto's side from the very beginning. Naruto Uzumaki himself ruled as the 7th Hokage in the Boruto era, and while most of his job saw him sit in the Hokage Office, the Otsutsuki changed that soon enough. After Momoshiki invaded, it was time for both Naruto and Kurama to brush themselves off and get back to fighting. The two did incredibly well in that fight and, later on, Isshiki appeared with an even bigger threat. During their first fight against Isshiki's vessel, Jigen, both Naruto and Sasuke struggled quite a lot. Naruto Uzumaki was sealed and needed to be rescued by his son and the other members of Team 7. In the rematch against Isshiki Otsutsuki, who was much stronger than Jigen, Naruto showed why he was the Seventh Hokage of the village and a ninja to be feared.

Naruto took him on in combat and, thanks to Kurama, entered an enhanced state named Baryon Mode. The power of Baryon Mode is known to be immense and Naruto Uzumaki was able to not just match but completely overwhelmed Isshiki with its powers. Even the godly shinjutsu of Isshiki was useless against Naruto and, although he was on the time limit, he successfully managed to play a huge part in defeating Isshiki.

Baryon Mode offered Naruto tremendous power, however, it also came at a steep cost and that is the life of the Tailed Beast. Initially, Kurama mentioned that Naruto could die after using this power, however, that turned out to be a lie. Naruto would have died had the technique been used for longer, however, it was only Kurama who ended up dying and he left Naruto behind, all alone for the very first time in his entire life.

Naruto's Fate

Naruto Uzumaki Death in Boruto

Shortly after the death of Kurama, Naruto grew considerably weaker, as was expected. In fact, the vast majority of his powers were gone and even the Six Paths Powers, which many hoped that he would still retain, were not accessible to him. Naruto Uzumaki became a liability in combat and even against enemies that weren't the strongest in the story, he struggled quite a bit. Even though Naruto was the Hokage, he couldn't keep up with stronger enemies anymore, which meant that someone else had to protect him. This person was none other than Kawaki, his foster son.

Kawaki was given a new life by Naruto and, for that reason, he decided to protect him by putting his life on the line. Even if that meant eliminating Naruto's son, Boruto Uzumaki. Kawaki did just that and, eventually, after he reconstructed his Karma seal, he came to the conclusion that he will eliminate every single member of the Otsutsuki Clan. Knowing that Naruto would interfere, Kawaki sealed him away, along with his wife and, since then, Naruto has not reappeared in the story.

Currently, Boruto is in its time skip and will return with the story having jumped four years into the future, with Naruto Uzumaki still being sealed away. However, that won't always be the case. At some point, Naruto will have to return to the story and when that happens, fans will want him to be strong enough to contend against the big threats that Konoha and the Shinobi world faces once again.

To put up any sort of find against the monstrous Otsutsuki fighters, Naruto will have to receive a big power-up. While there are many ideas out there, some of which suggest that Naruto might gain different power-ups entirely, there is only one power that suits them perfectly and that is the power of Kurama. The two have been working together ever since Naruto was a young boy and there is no power that suits him more. The problem is, however, Kurama is dead and he can't be brought back to life even with Edo Tensei, given that he was a mass of chakra, to begin with. That said, there is a way that he can be brought back into the story.

Kurama's Return In Boruto

Kurama from Naruto

Although it is unlikely, there is certainly a way for Kurama to return in Boruto. The world of Naruto is constantly expanding and Kishimoto has made sure to introduce strong and mighty enemies as the story progresses further. With strong enemies come overpowered abilities and one such ability that was recently introduced to the fans is Omnipotence. Simply put, Omnipotence allows the user to do just about anything. This technique originally belonged to none other than Shibai Otsutsuki, who was a legendary figure in the world of Naruto and was considered to be a God. In fact, he is a level above all the Otsutsuki that the fans have seen so far.

In his life, he ate so many chakra fruits and continued to rebirth himself to the point where he ascended to godhood and left behind his mortal body. Shibai had such power that his techniques could not even classify as ninjutsu anymore. They were termed shinjutsu due to the phenomenal power that they possessed. One of his abilities was named Omnipotence and it allowed him to make whatever he desired into a reality. After his ascension to godhood, Amado found his remains and gave the ability of Omnipotence to Ada. Ada has used his power twice already, with great success both times. Recently, she made sure that Kawaki and Boruto switched roles forever.

Upon seeing this happen, Momoshiki went on to say that the Otsutsuki gods have changed and rewritten history countless times for mortal humans. It is through this technique that Kurama can, perhaps, be brought back to life. Omnipotence can allow the user to rewrite history and if the events of the past are written in a way where Kurama did not die, then he can very well be restored back to life. For that, however, Ada would have to gain perfect control over the powers of Omnipotence.

For now, her control over this ability is not absolute and, even if she does gain perfect control over it, whether she would want to use it or not to help Naruto remains to be seen. Regardless, there is certainly a way for Kurama to return and it'll be interesting to see if the author of Boruto takes this path and pave the way for the return of an incredibly iconic character.
