Highlights

  • Sasuke Uchiha's loss of power in Boruto has been a gradual process, starting with Momoshiki's surprise attack where both Naruto and Sasuke proved weaker than him.
  • After sacrificing Kurama and losing his Rinnegan, Sasuke's role became limited, but he played a crucial part in rescuing Boruto and training him to grow stronger.
  • Although Sasuke is currently missing in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, fans should expect his return soon, as he is too important of a character to be killed off-screen, and his absence may be due to incapacitation rather than death.

Sasuke Uchiha is one of the most important characters in the world of Naruto and Boruto. Fans have come to love him just as much as they love Naruto Uzumaki over the course of the years. It has been made apparent by the author of the story himself that Sasuke is almost as important as Naruto himself. As one progresses so does the other and these two characters have often been described as the yin and yang in the story.

As such, it isn't hard to see why Sasuke is such a beloved character, and, in Boruto, he continues his role with great agency as well. Unfortunately, Sasuke is nowhere to be seen in Boruto Part 2. Boruto: Two Blue Vortex started not so long ago, however, 3 months in and fans have not seen Sasuke anywhere. There are death flags all over this character and it is possible that he might have met his end in Boruto already.

Sasuke Uchiha's Loss Of Power

Sasuke Uchiha's fall from power has been a gradual process in the Boruto series and it did not happen all at once. At the beginning of Boruto, Sasuke was believed to be just as strong as Naruto Uzumaki. In fact, quite a lot of fans believed him to be stronger, simply down to the fact that Naruto had grown rusty by sitting in the Hokage office at all times while Sasuke was in the outside world, facing off against powerful enemies and tracking down those of the Otsutsuki. Of course, all this was just conjecture but, even that aside, it was clear to see that Naruto and Sasuke were equal in terms of power at the beginning of the story.

When Momoshiki struck, it was clear that both Naruto and Sasuke were weaker than him and this was a big surprise for the fans. Momoshiki was an incredibly powerful enemy and his arrival at the beginning of Boruto meant that even stronger enemies would emerge later down the line and this did not paint a good picture for the heroes of the old series. Somehow, Naruto and Sasuke were able to defeat Momoshiki, however, from there onward, things only started getting worse. When Jigen was introduced in the story, he easily outclassed both of these Shinobi and, when his true self, Isshiki, was brought forward, it was quite clear that even after combining their powers, they would not be enough to take them down.

Eventually, Naruto had to sacrifice Kurama in order to stand a chance against Isshiki and he did so in quite some style, gaining powers that far surpassed those that Sasuke ever possessed. Meanwhile, Sasuke received the short end of the stick and did not even get any power up before his Rinnegan was taken from him. This weakened Sasuke considerably and took away the greatest power that he had achieved as a ninja. Essentially, the writers of Boruto crippled Sasuke for the sake of giving a platform for the next generation to shine, which is a decision that not every fan of Boruto agreed with.

Sasuke And Boruto's Training During The Timeskip

Sasuke's role in Boruto was fairly limited after he lost his Rinnegan. Even if Naruto was involved in some fights here and there, Sasuke was not playing any active role in the story. It was only at the end that he showed up to stop Kawaki from killing Boruto and, when that happened, he was finally relevant again. However, not long after, Kawaki, using help from Ada, brought to life his deepest desires and triggered Omnipotence, which allowed him to switch lives with Boruto Uzumaki. Sasuke then turned against Boruto and would have killed him had it not been for Sarada, who convinced him of the truth of the situation.

Sasuke then went to Boruto and rescued him, eventually taking him out of the village to train and grow stronger. This marked the end of Boruto Part 1 and, at the end of it, Sasuke and Boruto were both on the path to grow even stronger and return greater than ever before.

While far from weak, Naruto is no longer the powerhouse he used to be, and he has been surpassed by a few Boruto characters.

Boruto then announced a hiatus and, eventually, it was revealed that Part 1 would officially conclude here and that a new manga, called Boruto: Two Blue Vortex would now start. Fans waited 4 months eagerly for Boruto: Two Blue Vortex to kickstart and their favorite characters to re-emerge in the story. However much to their surprise, Sasuke was nowhere to be seen and only Boruto has returned so far.

Boruto's Return After The Timeskip

It didn't take time for Boruto: Two Blue Vortex to kick off its intense arcs. Right from the very first chapter, it was clear that the author wanted to get things hot and fiery from the very beginning. The author made Code attack Konoha with his Grimes and, at the same time, attempt to kill the Shinobi one by one until Boruto came out. It didn't take Boruto Uzumaki long to make his appearance and he managed to stop Code with minimal effort.

At this point, fans were certain that Sasuke would show up anytime now, however, they were met with a surprise when the conflict in Konoha wrapped up and Sasuke was nowhere to be seen. Boruto dealt with everything on his own and the weirdest part was that he made no mention of Sasuke at all. All fans saw of Sasuke was his outfit being worn by Boruto Uzumaki, which raised even more questions about what happened between the two during the timeskip.

Is Sasuke Dead In Boruto?

The question of whether Sasuke is dead in Boruto or not is haunting the fans at the moment. However, fans should be inclined to believe that Sasuke is still alive in Boruto. This is simply because he's too much of an important character to be killed off-screen and is the core of any Naruto sequel series, just like Naruto Uzumaki himself. Even though he did not make his appearance in Konoha at the beginning of the story, fans should expect him to make one soon enough. Of course, that is not to say that Sasuke cannot be incapacitated.

It has been clarified in the story already that Sasuke ended up fighting against Code during the timeskip. Code was chasing down both Boruto and Sasuke and a fight would have eventually broken out between these two. Just as Code ended up losing his eye, Sasuke could have lost something precious to him as well. However, simply killing him off without a word is not possible in the Boruto series.

Wherever Sasuke is right now, he is alive and well and should be expected to return soon. Fans have also seen Kashin Koji take up a very important role in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex already. He appears to have been allied with Boruto Uzumaki and that means Sasuke could currently be working with him. This would also imply that Sasuke will make his appearance very soon, just as Koji does as well. Fans only have to sit back and wait for this legendary Uchiha to show his powers once again and see for themselves how he has progressed over the three-year timeskip of Boruto.

Boruto is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus app. The release date for the next chapter of Boruto, Boruto Part 2 Chapter 4, is set to be November 20, 2023.
