Highlights

  • Hyperion weapons in Borderlands 3 now have a front-facing shield when aiming down the sights, which not only prevents damage but also has unique versions that reflect damage, absorb damage to produce ammo, or buff the next shot.
  • The Nidhogg rocket launcher splits into six projectiles, dealing six times more damage per rocket when players are in the weapon's optimal range.
  • The Nemesis repeater pistol can do both Shock and Corrosive damage during each burst fire, making it unique among Hyperion weapons in the original Borderlands.

Borderlands 2 was generally when the Hyperion corporation first distinguished its identity as a weapons manufacturer. At this point in the Borderlands franchise, the signature feature of Hyperion weapons was that these weapons grew increasingly more accurate as the weapons were continuously fired.

Hyperion's weapons received additional changes to their signature manufacturer trait in Borderlands 3, although the previous trait introduced in Borderlands 2 persisted. As of Borderlands 3, Hyperion weapons now cast a front-facing shield when aiming down the weapon’s sights. Not only do these shields prevent incoming damage, but there are a few unique versions of the shield on specific weapons. Certain Hyperion weapon shields in Borderlands 3 are capable of reflecting damage to the source, absorbing damage to produce ammunition, or absorbing damage to buff the player’s next shot.

Hyperion’s Strongest Weapons Throughout the Borderlands Franchise

Nidhogg

What makes this Legendary rocket launcher from the original Borderlands special is that its rockets split into six projectiles at a set distance. This is especially devastating because the split projectiles each do the rocket’s base damage, so getting into this weapon’s optimal range means that players are dealing six times more damage per rocket.

Nemesis

This repeater pistol is the only Hyperion-made pearlescent weapon from the original Borderlands. Nemesis’ strength comes from its ability to do both Shock and Corrosive damage during each burst fire, whereas few guns in the original Borderlands can naturally activate multiple Elemental Effects.

Invader

Most of Hyperion’s weapons are fully automatic, so the Invader stands out as a burst-fire weapon. Because the Invader is a sniper that also benefits from Hyperion's signature accuracy during its 5-round burst, it excels at landing critical hits on tanky enemies, like most of the raid bosses from the Borderlands franchise.

The Butcher

The Butcher has been in most of the mainline Borderlands games to date by now and for good reason. This weapon is a rapid-fire, fully automatic shotgun that occasionally refills parts of the magazine while firing. In the hands of the Vault Hunters in the Borderlands franchise that can passively regenerate their own ammo, this weapon shreds.

Conference Call

This famous shotgun from Borderlands 2 shows up multiple times in other Borderlands franchise games, even making a central appearance in the first Tales From the Borderlands game. The unique effect of this weapon is that it shoots an additional spread of bullets perpendicular to each standard shot fired, dealing massive damage in the process.

Longbow

Longbow is a scope-less sniper rifle that shoots arrows from Minecraft as projectiles, and it also deals Fire elemental damage. Borderland 2’s secret Minecraft reference is a fan favorite among Easter eggs in the Borderlands franchise, especially because it offers some sweet loot, like this very weapon.

Excalibastard

While Borderlands the Pre-Sequel is generally considered the underdog of the franchise, even including the Borderlands spin-off games, it briefly brought many enjoyable features to the franchise. In particular, the laser weapon type from this game is something that arguably deserves a comeback. Excalibastard is a legendary laser weapon that shines at freezing enemies with Cryo damage, and then shattering them with the attached melee blade.

Face-Puncher

The Face-Puncher is a unique shotgun that deals melee damage when fired, and the weapon will always come with the Hyperion weapon shield that absorbs bullets and returns them to the player. This weapon’s unique ability to deal melee damage at a range is surprisingly powerful, especially because it can even activate skills and abilities that normally require a standard melee attack.

Heart Breaker

This shotgun is one of the signature weapons that players can earn from Mad Moxxi in multiple different Borderlands games. Heart Breaker has decent damage potential, but what makes this shotgun so powerful is that it passively heals players for a percentage of its damage dealt, which is great for survivability throughout Borderlands’ endgame content.
