Borderlands 4 will be revealed on June 7, a reliable leaker has said. Specifically, the fourth entry in the Borderlands is said to be planned to premiere at the 2024 edition of Summer Game Fest.

The series' long-time publisher, Take-Two Interactive, acquired Borderlands developer Gearbox Software from Embracer Group in late March 2024, adding it to its 2K Games label. The announcement of that deal also saw the company confirm that Borderlands 4 is already in production.

2K's Big SGF 2024 Game Is Reportedly Borderlands 4

2K now intends to follow up on that move with a Borderlands 4 reveal. That's according to leaker Kurakasis, who reports that the fourth installment in the long-running series of looter shooters will be unveiled at Summer Game Fest 2024, citing sources familiar with the matter. The claim dovetails with SGF's May 16 teaser, which saw its organizers claim that 2K will be unveiling the next entry in one of its "biggest and most beloved franchises" at this year's edition of the event. SGF 2024 kicks off on Friday, June 7, at 2pm PT / 5pm ET / 11pm CET.

September 13 will mark the fifth anniversary of Borderlands 3, which is still the latest numbered installment in the popular series. The gap between the second and third mainline entries in the franchise was seven years long. Whether Borderlands 4 is currently on course to hit the market before its own predecessor turns seven is unclear. Namely, although 2K has already confirmed that the project is in production, it did not clarify when exactly it entered active development. Modern AAA game dev cycles are at least five years long nowadays.

Borderlands 4 May Not Be 2K's Only SGF 2024 Game

Whether 2K has anything more in store for the early June showcase remains to be seen. But assuming Borderlands 4 is indeed 2K's big SGF 2024 game, the publisher may refrain from sharing any additional blockbuster reveals at the event in order to avoid a scenario in which its own games are competing with one another for the spotlight. On the other hand, another recent report from Kurakasis indicated that a Mafia series announcement is also on the horizon. With 2K subsidiary Hangar 13 stating that the next entry in the Mafia franchise is "a few years away" in late 2022, a Mafia 4 SGF 2024 reveal cannot be completely ruled out.

2K will be far from the only major publisher participating in the June 7 event. As per the organizers' previous confirmation, no fewer than 55 companies will partake in Summer Game Fest 2024.
