Fans have waited seven years for Borderlands 3, but the game's launch hasn't been quite as smooth as one might have hoped. Consoles players have reported a variety of Borderlands 3 performance issues, including severe split-screen lag, crashing, and other problems. Users on PC seem to have had a comparably better experience overall, but now there have been reports of Borderlands 3 PC players losing their save data.

Multiple Borderlands 3 players have spoken out on social media about losing their save data on PC. It seems most of the PC players impacted by this issue were using cloud saves, but some that have been saving Borderlands 3 locally have also reported losing their data. So far, Gearbox and 2K Games have remained quiet about the issue, and have yet to reveal if there is a possible way for Borderlands 3 PC players to get their saves back or if there is a way to make sure this doesn't happen again in the future.

Those playing through Borderlands 3 on consoles don't appear to be running into the missing save data issue that is plaguing some PC players. However, as previously mentioned, Borderlands 3 console players have their own issues to deal with. One of the most significant is the Borderlands 3 split-screen lag, which significantly impacts performance when one player is in the menus.

2K Games has said that it is working to better optimize Borderlands 3, but no official update has been announced or detailed just yet. So it's unclear when exactly Borderlands 3 PC players will be able to play the game without having to worry about losing their save data. We also don't know when the split-screen lag and other Borderlands 3 console issues will be fixed either.

It's also worth mentioning that since Borderlands 3 is a timed-Epic Store exclusive, the lost save data may actually be more the fault of Epic Games than 2K Games. Fans will just have to wait for more information to be sure one way or another, and when playing on PC, will need to keep in mind that they run the risk of losing their save data.

Borderlands 3 is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Stadia version also in development.
