To any casual Star Wars fan, i.e. the ones who have seen the movies and nothing else, the appearance of Cad Bane in The Book of Boba Fett will be an intriguingly mysterious addition from an unfamiliar face. Now, Disney Plus has released a new poster for Cad Bane, so fans can get a better glimpse at the famed bounty hunter.

As hardcore Star Wars fans know, Cad Bane was introduced in The Clone Wars animated series and quickly established himself as a successfully and fearsome bounty hunter. The character made his live-action debut in The Book of Boba Fett episode 6, where he confronted and shot Marshal Cobb Vanth as a warning for his community to remain neutral in the war between Fett's entourage and the Pyke Syndicate.

As with most of the standout characters in The Book of Boba Fett, Cad Bane has received his own character poster following his debut on the series. As his appearance in The Book of Boba Fett proved, Bane is a ruthless bounty hunter, much like the show's titular character, who was as fearless as a mercenary as he was feared. Judging from the recent poster of him released by Disney Plus' Twitter account, it looks like his reputation won't be tarnished anytime soon.

From a certain viewpoint, it's a genius play by the showrunners to bring this character into this particular show. Introducing a bounty hunter into a show whose main character is also a bounty hunter makes for a plausible connection there. Also, including Bane in The Book of Boba Fett could potentially sway fans who haven't seen Clone Wars to tune in, and those who have seen Clone Wars who haven't gotten into The Book of Boba Fett to see more of the Disney Plus series.

As exciting as this all is, the showrunners for all of this recent Star Wars media have to handle their servings of fan service quite delicately. Modern audiences know full well that using nostalgic cameo appearances is the cheapest way to keep them invested. That's one of the reasons why fan reception to the new Star Wars trilogy was divisive, to say the least. If they are going to adapt well-liked and well-repped characters like Cad Bane to a live-action medium, characters like him should be relevant to the plot. Not just a *wink-wink* "Remember when he was in that cartoon?" cameo.

Star Wars may not have had the best track record of handling nostalgic cameos in its media since resuming the storyline, but at least the franchise has been given the opportunity to redeem itself for previous mistakes through these new shows. Bringing in Cad Bane is a creative choice, or at least it should be by the fanbase. Whether it pays dividends for The Book of Boba Fett depends on what the show decides to do with him.
