Jason Blum started Blumhouse Productions in 2000 and the company has put out some of the most impressive horror movies that fans have seen. The first big movie was 2007's Paranormal Activity and other stand-outs include Insidious (2011), Sinister (2012), Hush (2016), Get Out (2017), and The Invisible Man (2020). Chances are, if horror fans are looking at the year's big releases, most of them are going to come from Blumhouse.

2022 will be a great year for horror and there are four scary movies set to release in the upcoming months that fans are sure to enjoy, from a remake of a classic Stephen King story to a film written and directed by (and starring) B.J. Novak.

Firestarter (May 2022)Firestarter Zac Efron

Zac Efron stars in the Firestarter remake as Andy McGee, whose daughter Charlie (Ryan Kiera Armstrong) has magical powers where she can create fires with her mind. Complicating matters is the fact that the government wants to use her for their own purposes. Horror fans remember the original 1984 movie starring Drew Barrymore, who showed her amazing acting talent at such a young age.

While some Stephen King adaptations are awful, Firestarter is generally considered to be an entertaining movie, and it's interesting seeing a child character who has special powers. It will be cool to see how Blumhouse adapts this classic story for a contemporary audience. Blumhouse's original movies are always special and exciting, and now that they're delving into the world of remaking beloved stories, horror fans can't wait to see what the result will be. It will also be fun to see Zac Efron in a horror movie since that isn't his typical project.

The Black Phone (June 2022)

The Black Phone 2022 horror movie

While some Blumhouse horror movies fall flat, The Black Phone looks incredible, and it's adapted from Joe Hill's short story. Many Stephen King fans love his son's work since they share an impressive talent for crafting creepy stories with well-drawn characters and great twists. When Finney Shaw (Mason Thames) is kidnapped by a killer, known as "The Grabber" and played by Ethan Hawke, Finney realizes that the spirits of the people who were murdered can talk to him through a phone. The ghosts want to give Finney all of the information that he needs so he can get out and break free.

Like the best Stephen King movies, The Black Phone has a truly scary concept that doesn't pull any punches. Putting a child character in such a creepy situation is a big swing that will pay off and send a chill down audiences' spines. Even just the name The Black Phone is smart and concise and to the point while holding a greater meaning as this phone is connected to the spirit world. It's always great when a horror movie can blend a slasher and supernatural story.

Vengeance (July 2022)

BJ Novak as Ryan Howard in The Office

B.J. Novak, beloved for starring on The Office, wrote and directed Vengeance. Novak also stars in the movie alongside Issa Rae as Ben Manalowitz who is grieving his love interest who has been killed. He decides to look into what happened to her. According to Deadline, Novak's character has a podcast and is a journalist.

The most popular Blumhouse horror movies have intelligent characters, good concepts, and are great topics of discussion. It definitely sounds like Vengeance will be in that same category. Since Ben has a journalism background, he will likely be a great horror movie main character since he'll be able to ask the right questions and get the right answers, and he'll also likely be an incredibly curious person, which will be necessary here.

Halloween Ends (October 2022)

Fans can't wait to see Jamie Lee Curtis in Halloween Ends, and it'll be a long wait until October 2022 to finally see the last part of the trilogy. While fans wait to see what the new movie will be like, Jamie Lee Curtis told Claire Lim from NME, “So there’s one more film to make and I know what it’s about, and it’s going to blow people’s minds open. It’s going to make people very angry and it’s going to be shocking because it asks a lot of questions. So that’s all I can tell you.”

There is a major death in Halloween Kills as Michael Myers murders Laurie's daughter Karen Nelson (Judy Greer), and when the new movie opens, chances are that Laurie is going to be even more devastated and angry than she has been up until this point. While fans aren't sure what surprises and shocks are in store this time around, there's no doubt that this will be another popular and successful Blumhouse horror movie, and fans can't wait to see how Laurie's story is wrapped up.
