DC's Blue Beetle hit screens this Friday, and with the ongoing strike, the actors skipped out on the red carpet festivities. However, to celebrate the first Latino superhero film, renowned baker Nubia Moraes was tasked with making an amazing cake for the Brazil premiere.

With DC and Marvel battling it out to see who can bring in those big box office numbers, Blue Beetle seems to be the film many are excited to see. Blue Beetle's humble beginnings are those of archeologist Dan Garret, who discovered an ancient Scarab that gave him super abilities. Since then, others have bared the Blue Beetle name; the most recent is Jaime Reyes. Reyes is a teenager from El Paso who has to adjust to his newly found identity while keeping his family and community safe from Carapax, the indestructible man. Of course, with a new hero introduced to the cinematic DC universe, it calls for a celebration.

Phenomenal baker Moraes was tasked with making a cake for the Blue Beetle premiere in Brazil. Moraes is an incredible baker known for her mesmerizing cake sculptures. She's created cakes in the shape of actual characters. Her most recent is the Blue Beetle cake, fully equipped with his arm blaster and tentacles. However, she's also created a cake sculpture of God of War star Katros and Mortal Combat's Kitana. Her cakes are lifelike, with no detail spared. Most of her work is seemingly inspired by characters from games and films; she is amazing.

With the film set to release this week, many are excited to see Blue Beetle, especially those underrepresented in superhero films and comics. With a predominantly Latino cast, it's no doubt the film may touch on growing up as a Mexican American and the double standards that come with it. There is a looming dread of Blue Beetle possibly flopping at the box office with the new film, but then again, there is the chance of it being a hit with moviegoers when it releases later this week.

DC has experienced a lot of downs with some of its most recent films. However, they have also broken records and gone to places no other superhero films have. They have included origin stories of fans' favorite villains, such as the Joker. They have also successfully integrated their heroes in Justice League and Batman v Superman. DC is aware of its issues and is seemingly on the road to fixing them. Regardless, the Latino community is finally being represented, and hopefully, they will continue to have their stories told on the biggest screen possible.

Blue Beetle hits theaters on August 18th, 2023.
