DC's Blue Beetle may not have the most complex of plots, but it did come with a few great lines.

In an interview with CinemaBlend, Soto discussed how he felt about Blue Beetle joining the DCU. “You know, Xolo is a star,” Soto said. “I knew it from the beginning. Everybody jumped into it, and he stepped up to the plate, and he led the film. He has so much heart and, and the fact that all of that charisma, all of that personality, all of that backstory that forms the Reyes (family).” Soto had high praise for the Blue Beetle star, who delivered a standout performance in the film.

“Because this film very well could be a prologue, or a first act, to this character. The fact that all of those elements that form a character are canon, because he is now part of the universe, it just shows that speaking from the heart matters,” Soto continued to give the Cobra Kai star praise. “And being true to himself matters. And the fact that he has a future – and the way he interacts, and his personality – has a future in the coming universe. It's a vote of confidence in general. But at the same time, like, ‘Of course, Xolo. You're a star.’” Needless to say, Soto seems happy that Maridueña will take Blue Beetle into the DCU.

Soto isn’t the only one excited to see Maridueña return to the role of Blue Beetle in the DCU. Blue Beetle is the first live-action superhero movie to have a Latino lead. The film was initially planned for an HBO Max release but eventually got a theatrical release. With news of the DCU reboot and Blue Beetle's lackluster box office results, many fans of the character thought the first live-action Latino superhero would be cut. So, many Blue Beetle fans and those waiting for more Latino representation are thrilled to hear the character will return.
