DC's Blue Beetle is building anticipation for its upcoming second trailer by revealing new cast member Becky G will lend her voice to a crucial character.

Cobra Kai breakout star Xolo Maridueña takes on the lead role in DC's Blue Beetle, portraying Jaime Reyes, a young graduate who excitedly returns to his hometown of Palmera City, brimming with dreams and ambitions for his future. In his quest to discover his purpose in life, fate unexpectedly intervenes when Jaime stumbles upon an ancient relic of extraterrestrial biotechnology known as the Scarab. The Scarab chooses Jaime as its symbiotic host, granting him a phenomenal suit of armor with extraordinary and unpredictable powers. Consequently, Jaime's destiny is forever altered as he transforms into the legendary superhero known as Blue Beetle.

Ahead of the Blue Beetle movie's upcoming release, the production team has unveiled that singer Becky G, also known as Rebecca Marie Gomez, will voice a pivotal character in the DC film. The musician will bring life to the role of Khaji-Da, the extraterrestrial symbiote that wields control over the Scarab, which becomes fused with Jaime Reyes in the movie. Khaji-Da plays a crucial role in the story as the decision-maker who receives the superpowers and assumes the mantle of the Blue Beetle. Becky G recently shared her involvement in the highly-anticipated DCEU project through a video message on Instagram, where she expressed her enthusiasm for being a part of the film. The brief clip showcased glimpses of the movie, giving audiences a sneak peek into how the symbiote character will be integrated into the action-packed narrative.

Becky G, known for her successful music career with chart-topping hits like "Mayores" and "Mamiii," is no stranger to acting. The Blue Beetle role marks her second superhero character following her role as Trini, the Yellow Ranger, in the 2017 live-action Power Rangers remake film. She also featured in the popular musical drama series Empire. However, when her involvement in the project was announced, it left fans puzzled. Many wondered how the film could introduce a new cast member so close to its release, especially after the first trailer already premiered.

Aside from Maridueña and Gomez, Oscar-winner Susan Sarandon portrays the villainous Victoria Kord. Brazilian star Bruna Marquezine from Breaking Through will play Penny, Jaime's love interest. Also joining the lineup are Harvey Guillén from What We Do in the Shadows and Belissa Escobedo, known for her roles in Sex Appeal and Hocus Pocus 2, as Milagro Reyes. Damián Alcázar from Narcos will play Alberto, Jaime's father, and Elpidia Carrillo, from Predator, will portray Rocio, Jaime's mother. Adrianna Barraza, famous for her role in Babel, will play Jaime's Nana, while George Lopez, from The Spy Next Door, will bring Uncle Rudy to life.

Blue Beetle will debut in theaters on August 18, 2023.
