James Gunn denied one rumor that he cut Ben Affleck's Batman cameo from Blue Beetle.

Gunn made a few changes to the DCEU films that were currently in development when he was placed in charge of DC Studios. The first thing that Gunn did when he got the job was change The Flash's ending. Gunn would also make some changes to the upcoming Aquaman sequel. Gunn says these changes have been made to ensure the films don’t promise the audience anything about any new movies in the DCEU that weren't happening.

An X user claimed there was originally an Affleck voice cameo as Batman in Blue Beetle. According to the user, the cameo was “purely comedic.” However, the user claimed Gunn cut the cameo because it would have placed the film in “batfleck continuity.” Gunn denied this rumor by replying to the post, saying, “I've never heard of a Ben Affleck voice cameo in Beetle, nor has Peter, much less cut one.”

If there was a cameo, it would make sense for Gunn to cut it like he did for The Flash and Aquaman 2. There’s currently a lot of confusion about where the Blue Beetle film stands concerning the DCEU or the DCU. Gunn stated Blue Beetle would be the first DCU hero, but the Blue Beetle film would not be a DCU film. In a recent Instagram post, Gunn said Blue Beetle will be an "amazing part of the DCU moving forward."

Blue Beetle is seemingly a DCEU film that takes place after The Flash's reset, and the character will return to play a major part in the upcoming DCU. However, this might not be good news for the DCU, as Blue Beetle is expected to be another box office flop for DC. Blue Beetle was released recently with one of the worst DC box office openings, with $25 million domestically and $43 million worldwide, which is still better than experts expected. The film received positive reviews from critics and audiences, which will, hopefully, provide a much-needed boost in the rest of its theatrical run.

Blue Beetle is now playing in theaters.
